in reply to: Making bow quivers #7696
Yup, not pretty, but it works. Cheap and simple, made it out of one of those closed cell foam knee pads you get at the big box stores. Just cut in half, and slide the bow into the slot where the strap used to be, and make 1″ slits in it for the arrows. Can use any closed cell foam, I had the knee pads around, didn’t like them, and they are a good color.
in reply to: Not gonna work #64116Car seat belts may overtake duct tape. If you have a good junk yard, they don’t even charge you.
in reply to: Not gonna work #64103I’m planning to use the pack frame in the Two Good Finds thread. They were popular back in the ’60s. Fits me and I Can strap anything to that frame, and the swing out shelf. Yours doe’s look a lot more classy, and perhaps stronger. I have a good welder friend too, but he charges me $70 an hour, just to let you know what a good friend he is.
Haven’t yet figured out how to make it into a seat too, but I am working at it. Sometimes takes awhile for the right gear to come around.
Suggest you use stainless rivets. Stronger, no rust, no galvanic action.
in reply to: Not gonna work #63567LOL, I remember using wheel barrels to take cord wood out of the hills, That was 30 years ago, and we really messed up the place.
I was thinking pillow cases, and yes the bears/cayoties will be there, along with a whole slew of coons, possims, skunks, buzzards, blah blah blah
For the bling I’m thnking some kaki fabric from the discount fabric store, and black tie dye, but that web site might help.

in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #60993Good day. Did some scouting. Found a deer trail, and tracks just where I expected. Near a stream I fish frequently. Poor pic, but that IS a deer track.
Also think I have the documentation coming that will allow me to get a hunting license, without the time & cost of taking a firearms safety course. Gory details omitted.
in reply to: hunting tip from my little girl #60963AWESOME!!!
Got to show Arwen!!!
Now have bow/arrow for both Arwen, and Audrey, they have both used them, and want to shoot more. They were both able to hit the broad side of the barn. Pics to come…
in reply to: goose'n the longbow #58531I LOVE IT!!!
GREAT PHOTOS, GREAT HUNT!!
Thinking about how to disguise my kayak as a goose..or gooses.
Some 10 years ago I couldn’t sleep one fall night. So about 3:00 AM, I went out in the Kayak and chased the geese around the lake for a few hours. Neighbors were talking about the “noisy goose night” for weeks. lol
in reply to: formula for bows #58520What do you mean by explosions??
You might read my thread on building the bow.
Remember:
Just becouse it didn’t work does not mean it is not a good idea. At least now you know what dosn’t work, and knowledge is precious.
The only BAD ideas are the ideas that involve the ER and/or the COPS.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #57422There is a REAL General Store just west of Manchester Vt, hasn’t changed, next time you are here I’ll take you. Yup, you can get muskrat traps, .22 rimfires, trout flies, seeds, gingham, and a bridle for your horse. Only way to find anything is to ask. Not just the back room, its tha whole store. If they don’t have it, you don’t need it.
The problem has nothing to do with hunting season. I experience it every day of the year. On the other hand, that cup of coffee kinda gets the back side moving, so you can get that over with without the neccessity of a tactical poop which is much harder to do than a “tactical wee.” Beat solution I have found (as every construction worker knows) is to carry an empty Gater Aid bottle with you (they have a wide mouth), and don’t overflow. BTW. That is standard equipment in watercraft, wizzing over the gunnel is a BAD idea (remember ER, and the cops).
Being 3/4 Brit, morning tea is manditory, which I accomplish with a POCKET ROCKET, a SS mug, a tea bag, and honey, at 10:00 sharp, regardles of what the fish or critters are doing.

Always knew the principles, but you have applied them better than I ever did. Like the block to hold sandpaper, simple and it works.
😀
