in reply to: Backpack Seat #39437
I keep thinking it would be simple to build one, but haven’t come up with a viable design. Let me know what you find.

Stone walls in the strangest places. Can’t imaging why, too rocky/steep/dry for good pasture. And Oh My God, can’t imaging the work that went into building them, with only a horse (and kids) to help. Only good thaig was the cost of materials…
Beautiful pics. That one of the napper is a classic.
in reply to: Introduction of new member #35784Welcome, try to NOT hurt yourself.
On backpacking trips I have survived well on Mountain House.
On fishing trips, where fishing was more important than comfort, I have survived nicely on jerkey, and trail mix. Had to modify the trail mix by ading almonds, and wallnuts (too sweet as it comes from the bag). Of course, I do have to have a little stove and stainless cup to make tea. MREs are too expensive.

Do it yourself, tell us all of the gory details, ao we don’t make the same mistakes you did, and waste all of that time, money, and suffer all of that embarassement. 😀
in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #25632Still scouting here as the season dosn’t atart till Oct 21. Almost hit a turkey (with my car) on the way back from physical theripy. There was a flock of about a dozen in the breakdown lane. Sling comes off my arm tomorrow. Hunting is still kinda iffy, as the DR had to reattach my deltoid muscle to my sholder (which I founf out about from the PT). Thus the recovery will be longer.
Hiked some overgrown pasture today, saw deer tracks/beds, but no deer. Still hunting paradise, grass and small thickets. When they get tired of grazing, they just bed down in the nearest thicket. Blind wouldn’t work as there is no movement from food to bed. Did see a big black hairy ass running away from me in the underbrush, and another (the third) pot garden.

in reply to: deer bedding area #16341Food water, and shelter.
Now that you know where they are bedding, try to figure out where they are feeding, and drinking, and set up your blind on the route they take going to and from. If you set up the blind where they are bedding, you will spook them on the way to the blind.

in reply to: Practice…. #12128Gets even more demeaining when they get old enough to tell you when you are wrong, stupid, rude, etc. Or something like “If I said that in school, I’d be in the principles office.”
Keep in mind that you WILL teach them your WORST character defects. No way around it.

in reply to: Not gonna work #7930It’s a favorite of folks who like tough, versatile sleds. There’s a whole subculture out there of “pulk” builders who use the Paris sled.
What is a pulk builder?
in reply to: Not gonna work #7925DUHHHHHH
Been using the kids sled to haul firewood across the back yard, but never thought to use it to move anything else, and I’ve draged my plastic kayak over most everything. LOVE it!!! So simple, effective, and frugal (not cheap, frugal).
Understand about the tailgate, have that problem with a lot of things.
