in reply to: More international good press for bowhunting #24987
Been thinking about this tha last few days…
First: I did a lot of really dumb things when I was young.
Second: As someone up there said, anything can happen in the woods.
Third: Glad I learned good values as a kid, lots of people didn’t.
Fourth: It may be some idiot just like me trying to figure out how to bowhunt, who made a mistake, like missed… Anyone here who hasn’t missed?
Fifth: Doubt he made any mistake I haven’t made in my life.
in reply to: Longbow Doe #22468Why wasn’t that in the “Dirty Old Hats” thread?? Not dirty enough? Not old enough??
Nice harvest, you did it all good buddy.

Who is to say what culture is “better” or more “advanced” a culture of rich relationships, or a culture of stuff.
in reply to: Blood trail #21487Wish you luck, Dude.
This is why I’m not hunting this year, don’t want to be in your shoes.
in reply to: Not this year #21473OK, I got a deer call (gf calls it a deer horn). It came with a cute little DVD to teach me how to use it. Since the only time I could get on the computer was during flute practice, we played a duet. Flute and deer horn. No CDs yet, cantact the gf to book gigs.
btw. gf says I should take it back, sounds like I do at 3:00 AM, when alergy meds wear off, and she has heard enough of that already.
in reply to: Not this year #21460WOW!!! Such great compliments. I was writing a lot 10 years ago when my constant companion arrived, then the recession, etc. Too much on my plate to invest the time, concentration required. With a little less hectic/drama this may be the time.
in reply to: How many times per week do you hunt? #18844Lke your priorities, jp
in reply to: What ya got goin? #15995Don’t forget to bring a pee can!!

in reply to: Judging Distances #14345As for the clicks, I think the different words//expressions are interesting. We are all speaking oops writing english, yet we have really different ways of saying the same thing (often with the same words). I have a neighbor (Winston) who is Jamacian. Winston, Bill (another high tech, Yankee refugee) and I spent a hilarious half hour around our backyard campfire last night trying to figure out what Winston was saying.
As for Gladwell:
Bill says that the time needed for MY hands to learn new moves is a lot less than most people becouse I have learned so many trades (all the way back to the fly tying, calculater (70s), thru painting, slater, coppersmith, glazer, etc.). Another friend Dave, who I’ve known for over 20 years, likes to watch me use my hands (he is jelous). I don’t think it is anything special that I was born with, just a happy result of random events. I’m still trying to apply Gladwell’s stuff to myself after almost 2 years. lol
in reply to: A wife's perspective #14326Mike’s warning came too late….
As she read the first paragraph she muttered “Why would she want to…”
When she finished she said (in a deadpan voice) “That was funny.”
Then she gave me a lusty grin and said “Lets go to bed!”
While she listens intently when I talk about fishing, hunting, and the woods, and asks endless questions about the bows and arrows I have made, she will NEVER go hunting/fishing with me.
in reply to: A wife's perspective #11371Printed it for my gf when she gets here after work… I’ll let you know.
