in reply to: The Hammock Seat #30722I keep thinking there must be some way to turn one of these into a tree stand. Anybody here crazy enough to try it?
oops, wrong question. We all know there is someone crazy enough, just a question of who is going to be first…
in reply to: Sixth Sense #28208Awesome, Mr. Hammer.
I want to be a fox too. In face I wish IT would work for mr all of the time. On a slate roof, I am in a life endergering situation, and know it. All of my senses are hyper, and I go into a kind of “zone.” No arthritus, astame, joint achs, headach, etc. I know things I don’t know.. Or rather my hands, legs arms do things I don’t have to think about, everything comes together. I did this for 15 years. Wasn’t like that at first, but I think that is why I survived. Never mind about the recovery after I came off the roof… Unfortunatly I grew up in a disfunctional family and went to the woods to escape, thus I still (omg after half a century) feel more relaxed outside, and in the wooods. So it is NOT going to work while hunting. There is no control over this, and I would like sooooo much to be able to call it up at will.. On the other hand the deer (or whatever) knows he is in a life threatening situation, thus is hyper alert, and dosn’t have stuff like logic, self awareness, etc to interfere with instincts, so I feel like I’m vastly inferior (dispite this high forhead and the frontal cortex behind it). HOW CAN i EVER SUCCEED AT THIS?
in reply to: Another new member #27421Welcome to all new members!!!
Sorry, 1shot. My significent other dosn’t allow me to sleep without her (worried about the arthritus, asthma, brittle bones, etc), so we are never going to share a camp anyway.
Don’t worry about sounding stupid when you post. We ahve all been laughed at, done the stupidest things, and it is far better to sound stupid here than do something stupid.
The only bad ideas are the ideas that lead to the ER, or law enforcement. You can also avoid a lot of lost time and frustration by asking if anyone else has tried your “good idea.” Hardest thing to figure our when you get into something new is the acronyms and buzz words. Ask away, we understand.
in reply to: Spring Turkey Hunt #27372The biggest concentration of turkeys (yes the kind with fletching) here in Mass is inside of Rt 128 (a.k.a. Greater Boston). They have become backyard birds in city neighborhoods.
Most of the turkeys we see out here in Central Mass are on the road on the way to the laundry mat Sat mornings.
in reply to: You might be a traditional bowhunter if … #27365All of the fourth grade girls leave flat pidgens on your back porch for fletching.
in reply to: Merry Xmass to all #15243Warm wet (lost all of our snow) merry christmas from the middle of Mass. Hoping all of you are reasonably happy, healthy, and safe. Don’t do anything stupid this year!!!!
in reply to: Man can live on peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches #8357Trail Mix, actually that is lunch when working outside. Buy ready-made stuff, then mix it with equal parts wallnuts, and almonds…sometimes pacans too. Would you believe… I keep a peanit butter jar full of trail mix in the truck. Along with my pocket rocket, tea bags and water. Been eating granola bars too (store brands are better than name brands) more convenient, and they don’t go stale. Keep a bunch in the glove compartment. Jerky is too salty.
I have bad memories of squished hot PB &
in reply to: On TeeVee hunting heroes #55523“What to do when snowed in.” Was the whole reason for “Building the Bow” no idea what I’m going to do this year. Can’t afford to read new books, and even tho our used book store is the best in the world, ir dosn’t do special orders. May have to look into Ebooks. Scarey thing is that if I am not active, the arthritus starts taking over. I’ve started making a hunting coat, I’ll let you know what I come up with if anybody is interested.

in reply to: On TeeVee hunting heroes #54349Goes both ways. Can’t say how many time I’ve told a Dixie to say that over in Yankee. On the other hand, if it is not too thick, it sounds soooo sexy.
