I like shoe glue
in reply to: Crossfit and hunting? #29756For the last 25 yrs work kept me fit (really fit), and now I’m working in an office… For now I make it a point of doing something like cutting firewood, garden, hike in the woods, etc. every day. But I ‘m scared. The older you get the faster you loose muscle tone, and the harder it is to get it back. I didn’t read that I’ve lived it. Used to be able to bounce back, now I’m finding I have limitations.
in reply to: Someone has been PEEKING!!! #18721Remember in the BUILDING THE BOW when I said to do certain things ALONE!! Some experiences ate just too special to share.
No bad ideas, just good ideas that didn’t work.
When I was making my own tools for slate/copper work, I had a big pile in the corner of the shop tat I called “Good ideas that didn’t work.” Surprising how often I returned to something months or years later and with few tweaks it worked.
in reply to: New (to me) Super mag 48 #33244NICE!!! Happy for you.
I’m searching yard sales for one of those. Not so sure they would really work with my short draw length (22″). I’m only 5’2″ and I can draw my 48″ bow from my knees with no problem, so you should have no prop in the kayak.
HAVE FUN!!!
in reply to: String grove silencer #26194I used shoe goo to glue suede on the tips of my recurve. It is quiet without anything on the string. OK, at least I don’t hear anything.
in reply to: What's happenin' to things? #26187I resemble the “coming up short” comment. Grrrrr
My feathers are 3″ x 3/4. They seem to work, but I’m not getting downrange when my lady shoots, even if there is a shed in the way. Better to get her to stand behind the shed, and listen while I shoot. 😆
Wild turkeys don’t still seem to have full length feathers, best to get out and drive the back roads looking for road kill, or shoot them yourself. On the other hand we wouldn’t have the white or solid color feathers without the market turkeys. I like the white as they are easier to find, and they seem to be worth the cost, given the time to make GOOD fletching out of raw feathers.
btw: I finally bought the constant companion a notebook. Just when the laptop died. Luckily the IRS refund arrived, and I am sitting in front of a brand new laptop, and its mine all mine!! That means I don’t have to clean food off the mouse every time I get to use it. WHOOOOOO WHEEEEEE
And since the notebook is HERS she is taking better care of it.
If I do anything stupid, I’ll let you know…
On the bows I’ve made (and I am NOT an expert)limb twist was caused by the string notches at the tip being uneven – one was higher than the other. When I corrected it they limbs straightened…slowly. Mayhap the bowyer made a mistake. I have found it hard to get them exact, and they have to be REALLY exact.
Ferguson talks about that in BECOMING THE ARROW.
in reply to: Custom touches on arrows… #19534Still making my arrows rude and crude. They are ment to hit where I look, not look pretty.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #19520Jim, I’m jealous. Tomorrow I get to “guide” two 10 year old girls to a Memorial day parade.
in reply to: FASHION SHOW #48791Sorry, posted that thread then couldn’t remember how to upload the pic Arwen took of me. Yes I got dressed up in camo to take her sledding, even took my bow for the pic.
May have to call my son in Salt Lake for help.
BTW: Audrey has seen your pics, and mine…I’m the most handsome. Although I am sure there are other opinions, I don’t care.
in reply to: Side quivers with arrow grippers #45150Love it!!! The flip flop gripper is the same principle as the knee pad gripper on my bow quiver. Yogurt cup is pretty good too, looking for a plastic container to cover the broadheads on my bow quiver. Container for Bluebunny Ice Cream may work, but somebody keeps throwing them away.
btw, Arwen just looked over my shoulder and asked “Why doesn’t have a head?”
