in reply to: Just funny. #18057
Cute, where do you find those things?
GREAT!!! This will be my second year trying for deer with a trad bow. Lot of times I felt really foolish last year, realizing the deer were all in back of me, or the wind changing so I stunk the woods up. Got up from a stand once and flushed 3 deer that were right next to me. Total frustration when the deer are there, but behind a bunch of twigs that would surely deflect my arrow. So many things that can go wrong!! You managed to overcome all of that and succeed!!!!
in reply to: It worked!! #63439Really neat the way they work. Always find the arrow on top of everything, just lying there. Dosn’t dig into the duff at all.
in reply to: Yes! Yes! and Yes! Update #61210Can we come too? We don’t eat much. We’ll wash dishes. Make beds. Cut firewood. Say Grace over supper.:D
in reply to: minimizing the stuff we carry #57620Even though you will find a road in 3 miles if you follow a stream, here in MA….
Kinda hard to follow a stream with a broken leg. I keep remembering that old trapper in Jeremiah Johnson, that froze to death because he broke a leg.
Besides If you are running around in circles between streams, you may never find a stream.
I don’t just BELIEVE this stuff I KNOW it! Been there, done that.
in reply to: minimizing the stuff we carry #51973I take toilet paper, much better than flagging tape if you have to squat, and just as good for marking a blood trail. Brought home several pieces of marking tape last time in a WMA (along with a few Mylar balloons).
I have a head light, and an extra flashlight. No extra batteries, if your batteries die you won’t be able to see to change them. No reason not to have an extra with the cheap little LED flashlights.
I also have a butt cushion, as my butt didn’t come with cushioning, and doesn’t like cold and wet. I hang it from my fanny pack with one of those baby ‘beaners.
Contemplating a chair of some sort. There is never a rock or log where I want to sit. Not about to carry a rock or log with me. I have a neat little folding camp stool, but the legs are chrome, and to carry it I need a day pack.
Have made a tree hammock seat, but again, never a tree where you want it.
I got the fanny pack at the after season sale last year. Fit fine in the store, but with a little weight in it, and a little movement it slides down to my knees. Not enough fanny for the fanny pack. Not too bad if I wear it over a shoulder like a bandolier.
No cow call as there is no cow season here. But if there WAS….
And when I am marching out the door, Audrey makes dam sure I have the compass, the cell phone, and a note telling her where I’m going, & when I will be back..
in reply to: What Fall Plans? #51939I have permission to hunt 3 (contiguous)farms, and have done extensive scouting on 2 Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). I intend to hunt all 3. They all have deer, and bear (Bear season started Sept 8). Not really HUNTING bear, just keeping a broad head in the bow in case I see one. Have seen both deer and bear, but they disappear when the season opens. The upland bird season starts 2 days before the deer season, so I expect the bird gunners will drive the deer out of the fields (where they stock the pheasants) and into the deep woods. As of yesterday the deer and bear are still eating the cow corn in the big field on the farm. Been out every weekend ,and have seen no rubs or scrapes, should start soon with rubs, scrapes next month when the season opens.
in reply to: It worked!! #46743No, not wing nuts. Go to the hardware section where there are all of those little drawers of fasteners, washers, etc. and ask somebody for T-nuts. Remember 8 32. Been stumping about 4 times, and have not lost an arrow. Not saying how many times I missed stumps, but I’m no Robin Hood.
in reply to: Soft Mast Crop #43132I’m sliding around on lots of acorns in the woods, dangerous out there, for an old cuss.
Apple orchard owners have big grins on their faces.. Audrey says her brother’s apple tree has too many apples for him. Thus there is a bag full in her trunk…
