in reply to: 1 finger over vs. 3 fingers under #61245
I think in the illustration you’re talking about in Mr. Asbell’s book, he’s actually showing what happens when you have an improper bow-hand grip on the bow. According to Byron Ferguson’s book, the tiller of the bow will make the difference on whether shooting 3 under or split finger is proper for that particular bow. I personally shoot 3 under with my longbow & split finger with my recurve. But I think ultimately the “best” one is whichever style helps you to put the arrows where ya want ’em. 🙂
in reply to: Dang Squirrels!!! #61234Hahaha! And to think, until I read that, I thought I was the only person in the world to have been busted by a deer with a judo pointed arrow nocked! I feel your pain, as just last year I had a tall 6 point surprise me by walking up to about 10 yards to my right (on the same path I was standing in) while I was busy trying to find a limbrat that had my (unfortunately) undivided attention! I’m SO glad to know that I’m not the only person that has ever made this mistake! It does make for a very funny story, for those of us who are shameless enough to tell it!!! Bravo!
in reply to: new to sight #49046Well, from one “new guy” to another, welcome. Seems to be some good people on here & tons of info & experience to draw from. Is that a “Robin Hood” shot in your picture?!? NICE SHOOTIN’!!!
in reply to: Self bow?? #46049Troy, I’m just curious, are those snakeskins from snakes you’ve collected yourself, or did ya buy them? Sorry to ask a question so far off of your topic roninrus1.
in reply to: Now here's something we all truly need #44783Dang it! Yet another of my brilliant get-rich-quick schemes stolen and marketed before I could get to it! LOL!
in reply to: Barta on techno-BS #39320I’ve been watching Tred Barta for a few years now and can honestly give him a large part of the credit for me buying my first Longbow. Doing things the “Barta way” has been a n inspiration to me. I believe he is one of the most inspirational people on television today. Even more so, since suffering from a spinal stroke that left him paralyzed, but not crippled. I only hope that my will is half as strong as his should I be faced with such adversity. Thanks to him, I learned that it’s possible to hunt (and succeed) the way I love to hunt. With impossible goals, “primitive” techniques, and unwavering integrity.
in reply to: Motivation #29316I guess I’d hafta say my motivation to hunt begins with me enjoying God’s perfect creation in a way that I had never experienced before. When I hunt I feel like I’m living the way He intended for us to live. It’s the constant learning about how the world REALLY is supposed to work. The love of the beauty of His creation and the reminder that I am part of it. I like the thought of providing perfect food for my family (although it hasn’t happened yet). As for bowhunting, it started out as simply as because it gave me more time to be hunting. Then I picked up a traditional bow, and I have fallen in love with it. I suppose it’s partly because it feels even more natural.
in reply to: My first Deer is down! #27153That is AWESOME!!! I personally have never killed a deer (with gun, compound, or anything else), but I continue to increase the challenge. I have fallen in love with traditional archery & only hunt from the ground. Your story & photo are encouraging to me (although I don’t think ANYTHING could DIScourage me)! I’ve been hunting with various weapons for 6 or 7 years now, & have only managed to scare the pellets out of the local wildlife. Well done!
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #27120WOW! I’d hate to see what this thing costs! As for me, I think I’ll stick with G.Fred’s suggestion & tie on some floss. Maybe I won’t tag out on a “monster”, but at least I’ll know that I’ve EARNED the right to place my tag on my first deer. Maybe I should consider getting one for the house for the next time I have beans though………..LOL!
