in reply to: Don't Do This! #26643
My wife loaned a bow of hers to our son for his girlfriend to use. He did not remember it was on top of his truck until he was 20 miles from the archery range. He is lucky though she never really liked the bow that much and she really likes her future daughter inlaw.
in reply to: Elk Hearts movie #24810I too just got to watch it, my wife watched also and she is not a hunter but truly enjoyed the movie. Thanks Dave for all your hard work to make this movie happen.
in reply to: DR ED ASHBY NEW BOOK #22697Sounds great, might I ask where you are ordering it from?
in reply to: Elk Heart on the radio #18870Thanks Mike, As we all know this is a very deep subject and a 1 hour program only amounts to the opening credits to a story that will take countless hours to fully understand. To spend a hunting season sharing campfires with Dave and gaining perspective from his insights would be a truly rewarding experience.
in reply to: It worked!! #49604Here is a picture of what Grumpy is using. I have used a 100 of them over the years and never thought to use them like he has.
in reply to: Measuring Up #41588The commercialization of hunting has not produced any positive results. The endless pursuit of large antlers has not done anything positive for the animals we pursue or the image of those that pursue them. I believe that is the main underlying issue with the very severe kick in the image that hunters took over the killing of the Lion called Cecil. That individual had already killed a lion on an earlier safari and was now out to kill another one that was more impressive than the last.
in reply to: Too Noisey? #37183Da Drone Da Drone:twisted:
in reply to: Lion Poacher? #32367That is because the lion followed the rules of Fair Chase.
in reply to: Untamed – Online now #21213THANK YOU CLAY,that is one of the best heart felt video’s that I have seen. After the publicity that hunters have received in the last month this is truly a step in the right direction to show how TRUE HUNTERS THINK AND FEEL.
in reply to: Animas River Toxic Release #14696We are being pushed in Minnesota by copper mining interests to allow sulfide mining here. The hidden language in the agreement leaves us with the same thing as in Colorado. Mine pits full of toxic waste that the Tax Payers have to deal with. Hopefully this tragic event well open some eyes and they see the 500 or 1000 jobs for 20 years are not worth the risk.
in reply to: Lion Poacher? #58048There has been many stories on the internet about this event. I know they are not ALL true but there just seems to be something that does not smell right here. Lion hunt is not a high volume animal for African safari’s. So the number so the number of guides that do it I think would be small. Palmer is a long time member of the Safari Club so he surely has the opportunity to contact many people in that group for information about guides and their hunting areas. To think he went to Africa to hunt Lions and just showed up in Zimbabwe with 55.000.00 in cash picked the first Pro Hunter’s name from the yellow pages and went Lion hunting I believe is a bit of a stretch.
My gut tells me through his inquiries he found a Pro Hunter with a set of ethics that closely matched his own.
in reply to: Fire starting tip – Backcountry College. #49863It is as good as advertized. I have seen that stuff where it has been laying the back of a truck in the rain just shake the excess water off and light it up.
in reply to: Killing the future of hunting. #30948The NBEF (National Bowhunter Education Foundation) last year certified a online course with no field day for their class. They are thee accepted course for all 50 states and Canada plus other countries around the world. Our archery club used to put on 2 classes a year and get 45 to 50 students per class now I have the only classroom style class listed in the state of Minnesota. I have 10 students signed up and it is less than 2 weeks before the class.
Everything is being geared toward getting it done faster and easier. There is no pride or bragging on how much effort it took to be successful. This may be our last class at the club. It is hard to bring in 6-8 instructors for a 8 hour class when you have less than 10 student. I did the class for 24 years so far I guess I can take Solis in the fact I tried to keep the tradition alive.
