in reply to: Book Suggestions #129608I see the latest issue of TB magazine in the book review section has a write up on a book titled “Teachers of the Forest” by Barry Babcock. I came across that one a while back and it is a excellent read. (In my opinion anyway). It seems to be liked by the reviewer also.

in reply to: More news from The wild edge #59295Thanks Mike, tell Dave I enjoyed every minute of it.:D
The term harvest does get used to soften the blow when it comes to eating meat as food. What really needs to be taught to our children is that “absolutely nothing lives on this rock without the death of others”. Plants only live because other plants died and their bodies became food for the organisms that break down plant fiber into soil. Then more plants grows and the cycle continues. It makes no difference if you pull a carrot out of the ground by its green top or a pike out of a stream by it’s lip you are killing it so you can sustain yourself. With that said let us give thanks today for all the dead bodies on the Thanksgiving table, and the live ones we are sharing the meal with. Happy Thanksgiving

in reply to: You would never guess who dared me!!!!!!!!! #52434There seems to be a push the include anything that has a broadhead on the front in the archery seasons. Broadheads are not the only determining factor the delivery system also counts. This will be marketed to allow those that have difficulty drawing a crossbow to participate in archery seasons. They will not stop until they are using 410 shells to fire a shaft with a broadhead mounted on the front.
in reply to: I draw the line way, way before helicopters #47275The best use I can think of for them in the lower 48 would be to access land locked public property. No sir Officer I did not step over the fence corner I flew over it. They do have an enormous opportunity to be abused just as their smaller cousin the drone.
in reply to: I draw the line way, way before helicopters #12745The bush plane needs a runway long enough to land on and take off from so most times you still have to hike your camp a few miles to get to your hunting spot. Helicopter need a 100′ diameter relatively flat circle to land on. My opinion and just to be honest I have never had the opportunity to do a flyin hunt.
in reply to: Ducks, Politics and Money #21821First off Thanks Don for your efforts. I have written about local issues in the past and have used words to enlist a response. What is truly upsetting is the concerted effort throughout the country to restrict public access and to sell of public lands to the benefit of the rich and powerful. Unfortunately DU is not the only organization to bend to the wishes of a wealthy donor. For DU to say stream access is not an issue that pertains to duck hunting is absurd. Ducks use streams as well as lakes as swamps. It has always been my understanding that they were about protecting habitat and hunting access.
in reply to: Traditional Question #44012It depends on your definition of Traditional. It would not qualify to be used at any of the Traditional Shoots around the country. I am not aware of any rules against it for hunting. The question is what do you want to do with your archery experience. It is your bow and your enjoyment of the sport. If you want tight groups at longer ranges a site can help. If your goal is to develope your own personal skills then range does not really matter. Some are Pro Golfers and the rest are Golfers they all can have fun.
in reply to: Good bow holder for treestand #43920Here is what I have been using this year. It has worked very well for me.I like the 3 armed version because it allows for a great range of adjustment. I know in some locations it is not legal because it is a screw in device.
in reply to: Seats vs The Ground #32083That can work Steve but if he is hunting on state lands in Minnesota that are (WMA’s) Wildlife Management Area’s. Then we are required to remove our stands everyday after hunting. It cuts down on people hanging multiple stands and homesteading an area.
