That’s a beauty! Your wife is smart to let you buy the bow so she can wrap it and give it to you! dwc
in reply to: brace height problems? #19272I’ll pass along the suggestion my bowyer gave me. It worked like a charm.
Hold your bow in your bow hand. Hold the bow straight out in front of you with the bow parallel to the ground. Adjust the bow in your hand so the string is below your forearm. That’s where you hold the bow and if it works for you like it did for me, you won’t even need an arm guard.
I’m shooting a R/D longbow, but I don’t see it making a difference.
Best wishes, dwc
in reply to: Work Sharp Sharpener for broadheads #16106Smith, just so nobody confuses me with a purist, if they have an extra KME laying around please send it to me! Christmas is tomorrow! peace, d
in reply to: Work Sharp Sharpener for broadheads #15933While I do want a KME system, I decided to hone the skills I have and partially lost. I decided to sit down with one of my Tuffheads and sharpen the thing until it’s sharp or there’s nothing left to it. It took a bit, but I got it shaving sharp. I looked at the edge with a loupe for a close look at what I have been doing to the edge and could easily see I was not following the original bevel. I just worked on consistency. I got it sharp, then lost it, got it sharp and lost it. Just kept practicing. I also found that I think I was stropping at too high an angle and was taking the edge off that way. I laid the blade down lower and got a much better edge that way.
Those sharpeners are very valuable tools and I still want one, but in the meantime I needed to get back to basics. dwc
in reply to: Merry Xmass to all #15735Merry Christmas to you, too Grumpy. You might be asking a lot, but I’ll give it a try. best, dwc
in reply to: Kanati by JK Traditions #15138[quote=colmike]Bruce–darn nice bow. But I think posting pictures of it just prior to the gifting season is sicko. I mean now I want one!
That’s true, Mike. I wonder how many kids will go without new boots this Christmas because we got the urge for a new bow for ourselves, too! Dang.
in reply to: Bent 100grain brass insert #14973I’ve had a brass insert bend on me, but just by a bit. It’s a fine pursuit to build them better and stronger, but I wonder if something has to give at a point. If it isn’t the broadhead, the adapter or the insert, then the shaft?
Mine bent while stumping and glancing off a rock. Has anyone had one bend in an animal?
Thanks, dwc
in reply to: Kanati by JK Traditions #14957Smith, that’s a beauty. I generally don’t like the striped risers, but this one is really nice. What do you call this style of bow with the more triangular shape when strung? Thanks for posting the photos. Heck of a nice present. I hope you have a late season to use it. peace, dwc
in reply to: Merry Xmass to all #14928Happy Holidays to all of you! I wish you all good health, good hunting and peace always. From Henryville, PA. peace, dwcphoto
in reply to: Historic Examples of D/R Longbows #12908Brief and to the point. Well worth the watch. Thanks for posting it. dwc
in reply to: What type of arrow? #12356I’ll put a vote in for Beman ICS Bowhunter. They are cheap and hold up well. I do break one now and then stumping, but they are pretty tough. They have been easy to tune. I’m shooting 400s with 300 gr field tip/broadhead up front for about 630 total weight and about 28% FOC. I went with the cheapest option and they work fine.
The guys at 3River are an excellent source of information when buying, too. They have been very helpful to me in getting started. Really, so has anyone else I bought traditional stuff from. Good bunch out there.
Have fun, dwc
in reply to: Yote Robertson #8133Thanks! That was too obvious for me to think of! Appreciate it, dwc
in reply to: Yote Robertson #8082Hey Guys,
If there is a way to see this other than on the NG channel, let me know. We have basic-basic cable. Thanks! dwc
