in reply to: Cold Weather Gloves #39332
I got a chance to try the American Leather gloves on the stand Friday morning. It was 28f and I was still for about 3 1/2 hours of squirrel watching. The gloves worked really well. If it were much older I’d go to mitten, the fold-over type, but these did the trick for chilly weather. ?? dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #38467That’s a beautiful coat. Quite an honor to carry on that traditional. Merry Christmas! dwc
in reply to: A celebrity talking about hunting… #36759Chris Pratt is a comedian. He’s in a few movies, but I think better known for his role in Parks & Rec. That’s a show I couldn’t stand at first, but now find it pretty funny.
Merry Christmas to all! peace, david
in reply to: Merry Christmas bow hunters! #34210Merry Christmas to you all! Jim, I wish you all the best. A maximum of adventure and a minimum of discomfort. I’ll miss your posts. You’ve become a mainstay here. I look forward to stories of your adventures. best, dwc
in reply to: Neck Knife #34127I used to wear my Swiss Army knife on a piece of rope around my neck when backpacking as my pants didn’t have pockets. It was not ideal but served the purpose of keeping it handy. With your comments in mind, this afternoon I put a lanyard from a game call on a small sheath knife. It’s more of a dagger than a hunting knife, but it’ll serve the purpose and I can give this an honest try. If I like it… I’ve always liked those Asbell knives so maybe I’ll have an excuse to order one. You guys are a bad influence. Dwc
in reply to: Storing and/or Displaying Your Bows #33002That’s very nice. I have to say, I admire you guys with plenty of bows. I have a couple, but only shoot one, and trying to get that where I want it. It’s pretty cool that some of you can shoot more than one bow, and different styles, well. Nice collection, Ontario. best, dwc
in reply to: Neck Knife #32995That made me giggle. I rarely even wear a knife on my belt anymore. My pocket knife, an absolute essential part of my being since I was a boy, goes in my pocket. Sometimes, two, like an absent minded chain smoker lighting another with one burning in the ash tray. Sometimes two, because I can’t make up my mind which one to take. My sheath knife goes in the pack, unless I’m traveling really light and then it usually goes in my pocket. I’ve met guys who actually use their neck knife, but it requires two hands to put it away, safely at least. When my friend made this one for me, I had to ask what it was for. When he told me, I asked him wasn’t I suppose to keep knives away from my neck?
I’m honored to have these two pictured above made specifically for me and even named for me, but they pretty much stay in the safe. My boots are a little too scuffed and my car has too many dents in it to carry those things seriously. That said, I’ll probably get a more utilitarian neck knife someday and keep it handy in my pocket.

in reply to: Neck Knife #32606Here’s my neck knife, made by Bud Nealy, of Stroudsburg, PA. He made it for me with what he calls, “his poor first attempt at Damascus steel.” I’m happy with it. I guess I’m not as picky. It was a two knife set. The camp knife is the other piece. best, dwc

in reply to: A celebrity talking about hunting… #31952Good post Jim. Thanks. We’re big fans of Chris Pratt anyway. Nice to hear that he’s also a thoughtful hunter. Thanks. Dwc
in reply to: Neck Knife #31876Fallguy, I really like the basic, sort of homemade appeal of this knife. Very nice. A basic simple tool and the beauty is in the simplicity. best, dwc
in reply to: Storing and/or Displaying Your Bows #31612I hate to brag, but this is a perfect opportunity to show my stuff! Don’t be too jealous! dwc
in reply to: 70lb recurve or longbow #30671Thanks for the link to the story on Steve. Nice photos and very interesting time to share. He’s built for that bow. I’d look like a ballerina standing next to him. I can feel my arms ripping out of there sockets thinking about it! Dwc
This thread got me thinking about my glove. I’ve used a Duraglove all along and have been very happy with it. I’m pulling a r/d longbow rated at 46# and like the feel of the string, plus just being able to use my hand for other things while wearing the glove. I got out my barely used tab and gave that another try. Aside from feeling a bit clumsy with it, I really liked that I just naturally went into a deep hook. But, I also felt extra pressure on my ring finger so maybe I’m torquing a bit with the tab. Last night I got out a Cordovan traditional style glove and cut out the finger tips as suggested. What I didn’t like about that glove before was that it kept the string too far away, which is what started this thread. I’ll give that a try later. Dwc
