in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #46133
Your reply was excellent. I tend to listen in circles so I think I got it! Short story, there’s a lot that goes into these things. Pretty neat stuff. It goes to show you that bows, like archers, are built different, so one for one and another for another. Thank, dwc
in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #46089Smithy,
Interesting. In very general terms, I thought a lower brace height gave more string time and more power out of the bow, but I’m sure this is not an “all else being equal” scenario. Thanks for chiming. best, dwc
in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #46016A question for you bowyer types. What purpose is served by the forward handle style on some of the javaman bows? Thanks. Dwc
in reply to: Cat Quiver #45152Can’t answer the question directly, but will throw in for the safarituff. It’s the only one I used and I like it. Made the mistake of hanging it by the shoulder strap in storage. It got a nice bend in it. I was going to send it back but 3rivers put me in touch with the maker. He suggested i straighten it under hot tap water in the bathtub and if that didn’t work he send me a new one. It worked just dandy and now I hang only by the D ring as suggested and have not had any more trouble. Very easy to use in a variety of positions. Have fun. Happy New Years. Dwc
in reply to: Does it really matter ? #45136Never heard of such a thing. I don’t have experience with hunting in such extremes but once took a doe with a flintlock better than ten below. Tasted fine to me. I hope someone with genuine knowledge chimes in. Thanks. Dwc
in reply to: Grand daughter's canarywood longbow #43997Very nice! Did you make the bow? That’s very nice. Thanks for posting, dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #43652Trick is to measure across the shoulders of your favorite shirt/jacket and make sure it matches what you bid on. The listed sizes might or might not work for you. The measurements should work right. dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #43592Wojo, be careful with the size on the auction. Usually they list measurements. “Medium and large” can mean a lot of different things. I bought a medium and it was way oversized. I liked it enough to have it taken in by a taylor and it was still a bargain. Have fun. Dwc
in reply to: Free Class on Land Ethics #43579Here’s the official answer to my question about the class schedule. Thanks, dwc
You can take the class at your own pace. We have this class set up so that once a week’s material is posted, it will remain available for the rest of the course.
There is only one due date, and it only matters if you want to receive a Statement of Accomplishment. To receive a Statement of Accomplishment, all quizzes have to be finished by March 21st, which is one month after the course ends.
If you have any questions in the future, don’t hesitate to send them this way.
Thanks for your interest in the course!
in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #42947Take a few minutes to look at Leon Stewart’s bows. He’s an excellent craftsman and no BS kind of guy. He’s also very active in his local club and the PA Longbow Association. He does beautiful, functional work. http://Www.stewartsarchery.com. Best of luck in your search. Dwc
