in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #50762Hey Doc,
The trad only is in April and that cuts out a lot of the crowd. I thought the price went up a lot, too, but I’m sure the expenses did as well. It’s a one dayer for me. I pass on the long shots, especially the ones in the rocks. Gear is too dear to bust up a bunch of arrows. Wimpy? I suppose. There’s plenty of spots to have a blast without the expense of losing arrows to rock walls. Overall a great shoot. I’m going to try to get there this year.
best, dwc
in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #50752Alex, thanks for that last post. I figured you had it worked out for an ethical hunt. Glad to read it. Thanks, dwc
in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #50735Alex, Whittingham is a great shoot. It was my first and it’s where I met Leon Stewart, who made my longbow. Hope to see you there. best, dwc
in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #50698Alex. Looks like a good time. Saturday is the last day of the season here in Pa. Do you go to the Appalachian Bowmen trad shoot in April? Have a good time! D
in reply to: Does it really matter ? #49757This is turning into something interesting. Whatever the outcome, I’m sure I’ll hunt like I have been… whenever I get a chance. I’ll keep reading. Neat stuff. thanks, dwc
Spent much of Sunday reading Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Spear. It was required reading in my son’s sixth grade class. It’s about a twelve year old boy in the Maine wilderness in mid 1700s. A good read for a twelve year old boy and his dad.
Last Child in the Woods. Preaching to the chior here, but a good work on the importance of getting outside beyond the lines.
One Hundred Years of Solitude. I think i started that one five times before I took hold of it. One of the best reads ever.
Basin and Range by John McPhee. Great story teller makes geology really interesting.
And yep, I’m a sucker for that guys Petersen’s work. There’s a guy that’s on every man’s side, but many will sadly never know it. Dwc

in reply to: Last minute Arizona advice for Bruce and I #47484I have very very little experience to share. All I know is those washes fill up cast when it rains, but you provably got that figured out. I look forward to the stories and photos. Have a blast! Dwd
in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #47477Mike, if you need a place to store one of your old ones, let me know. I’d love to try one out some day. dwc
in reply to: beginner bow #47474R2, that’s a beauty. We do have a couple of those around here somewhere. I believe Byron Ferguson said something to the effect of… put your money in arrows. A lousy bow will shot good arrows better than a good bow will shoot lousy arrow!
Grumpy, I like that spot light idea… a lot! dwc
in reply to: beginner bow #47081I ended up with a Bodnik Little Stick. My wife is a lefty and Kustom King was having a sale on just the right thing. I was seriously considering the Samick, but wanted to stick to a longbow. My two children have Pilgrims, so the Bodnik fits right in. It have a nice matte finish and the draw seems very smooth. It hasn’t been shot yet but I’m sure it will work beautifully. Thanks for the input from you folks. Best, dwc
