in reply to: Books for the young #59401Find My Side of the Mountain. I’m assuming you’re doing the reading, of course. It’s a great adventure and there’s a good movie to go along with it. Have fun, dwc
in reply to: My condolences Don #59386This is a sad passing, but an incredible life story. We are fortunate to have had this intelligent person working for such amazing good. Heartfelt best wishes, david
in reply to: Good Reads #57807My wife and children had Crocs and wanted me to get a pair. I kept resisting. Then I found a pair on sale for $10 and gave in. Blue ones, to boot. Easy to slap on to take out the garbage for a walk to the swimming hole. I wearing the same pair for at least three years. Silly, maybe, but what’s a dad if he can’t join the silly fun. dwc
PS. just read that Hairy Hippy link. Good stuff.
in reply to: BOW SHOP IN NEW YORK #57334Jpc, enjoy you trip to NY. You’ll find no shortage of good beer and food. Subways beat taxis and are way cheaper. Have fun! Dwc
in reply to: Last PA bow hunt #57191Grumpy, every stand I placed was the best one ever. The only venison I have is left over from last year and some generously gifted by a good friend, who also is my mentor and an excellent hunter. Alas, was not meant to be this year. I didn’t get out nearly enough and anybody could tell you that if you’re not in the woods you’re not in the hunt. Heck, I couldn’t even find a fresh road kill this year! I drove past the property I finished the season on and, crom the car mind you, saw one hell of a well used trail that I never found in the woods. For the fun part, I have nine and a half months of preparation.
I’ll be carrying an axe with me on lots of walks now, selecting firewood to cut whenever the ground permits taking the Wheel Horse out in the woods.
Good luck with those trophy fish! Best. Dwc
in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #56879I wondered about the thickness of those. I might get one for fall hunting, though. I was wearing about 5 sheep on Saturday. Still able to draw and shoot practice arrows, but one more layer and I might have been incapacitated. dwc
in reply to: NJ Winter Bow #56816Love those woods. It was chilly for these parts. Alex, is that one of G. Fred’s coats? You like? dwc
in reply to: Last PA bow hunt #56670Warren can be pretty chilly. I hunted there when I was a kid and I felt like I was in the Yukon. Beautiful country. dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #56325Took the kids for a walk along the creek this afternoon looking for tracks in the snow. This is my favorite. Dwc
Well, it makes no sense without the photo, which I couldn’t post from my smarter-than-me phone. Here’s the photo of turkey tracks, landing on ice. thanks, dwc
in reply to: You're stuck with me…. #56299Father Critch, write on. I’ve learned a ton from this site, especially the forum. You can pretty much get all the help you need, short of actually being present. That too seems to be changing with more posts about members getting together to shoot and hunt. Hard to say how often members have unknowingly walked past one another at shoots. It’s all good here. And every once in a blue moon folks get riled enough to make it real interesting. Just like a regular family. Best, Dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #56295Nice looking rig. Dwc
