in reply to: 2015 mast and fruit crop outlook #54965
Until recently, it’s been dry here, but we had a lot of wildflowers. The bad news is the gypsy moth is back and hitting the oaks hard. They come around about every seven year. Last time it coincided with droubt so we lost a lot of oak trees. Hopefully, it’ll rain enough the let the tree regenerate leaves and keep them going.

So, if anybody wants to try a leather tab, a medium, me thinks, send my your address in a PM and I’ll mail it to you. No need for any money, even for postage. Glad to have it go to a good home. best, dwc
SOLD! thank, dwc
in reply to: Shooting tips – video #52544Hi Clay,
Another concise and informative video. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I don’t use the tip of my arrow to aim until I get back around 30 yards. I’m going to give it a swing a little closer and see how it goes. Thanks! dwc

in reply to: What ya got goin? #51234Been trying to get my form back in line. One thing I’m doing is spending part of my time shooting lknger distances, which means 30-35 yards. I’d show a photo of my groups but my lens isn’t wide enough! Funny thing is when I shoot from my platform or shoot through holes in the brush, I’m pretty much right on. When I’m in the open my shots open up. Pretty sure it’s about focus. Dwc
Ps. Smithhammer, looks like a nice ride. Enjoy. Dc
in reply to: Longow recomendation #50296Jpc, thanks for the clarification. Your initial post came off a bit harsh, quite unlike posts of yours in the past. Best wishes, dwc
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #50092[quote=Steve Graf]I’m not a target archer, but I think that they use the bigger shafts in part because it punches a bigger hole in the target and gives them a better chance of a good score.
I’ve been thinking that strategy would work for me, as long as I could get some arrows about a foot in diameter 😀
Steve, I go stumping with a buddy who uses rounded off blunts. I use Judos. We often comment on what might have been a close miss becomes a hit with the “judo advantage “.

in reply to: Longow recomendation #50031If I may piggy-back off Steve’s post about there not being any magic bow, I think it’s a sound suggestion. I have only really shot two bows, my old Browning Wasp and my newer Leon Stewart longbow. I think it’s worth taking a look at the Jeff Kavanagh, Moebow and George Stout videos. These guys all shoot amazingly and yet, at least for the most part, they all shoot production/factory bows. Kavanagh shoots Bear bows and Arne and George shoot whatever they pull off the rack and shoot them really well. I’m really happy with my custom longbow, but if I’m not shooting well the arrows ain’t flying well, same as it was with my 48 year old Browning Wasp. Best of luck to you, dwc
in reply to: Re-Thinking old Thoughts on Woodies #48871Steve, aren’t some aluminum target shafts made with greater diameter? My impression was that they would recover faster. Maybe someone can offer some clarification on that. Thanks, dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin? #48848It is an interesting article. Once again, man trying to correct what he’s undone. Wojo, it’s a tough spot sometimes when you can see both sides of an issue. Usually, that means you have an open mind and empathy for your fellow man and that’s a good thing to be sure. I have a personal conflict with us trying to accommodate more and more people with energy, water, space. On the other hand, the way I make a living requires a population base.
My son’s school recently did a tour of a living history village. They asked how many would be willing to give up their computers and go back to an outhouse. Knowing what I know now, I’d go. But, my dad grew up in rural, western PA, Coolspring,in the 1920s and early 30s, and later in life he often commented about how much he liked it better having a bathroom in the house, especially in winter.
Hope to meet you at ETAR if I can get away. best, dwc
