in reply to: What ya got goin? #19995Beautiful scene. Is that one of G. Fred’s quivers? Judos and quivers are a tough mix in my experience. Can’t wait to get a couple of hours to do some stumping. thanks, Alex, dwc

Thank you TJ & Robin for adding that book to the mix. Very nice. All the best, dwc
in reply to: Your most memorable misses…. #36647When I first started bowhunting several years ago I was on my way to a tree stand near my home. It’s right off a woods road that we walk on frequently. I had about 8 steps to go to get to the stand and I look to my left and a doe is just standing there looking at me, maybe 10 yards away. I faded back a little behind a white pine, nocked an arrow and leaned back out. She was stood there waiting. I drew, released and watched that arrow fly harmlessly by 18 inches to the left. She slid into the brush and walked off. Never did find that arrow.
Great thread. best, dwc

in reply to: Open stance or conventional ? #27189I think there is a lot to be said for practicing with broadheads. For some reason it just feels different than shooting field tips or judos. That feeling relaxes with practice. The funny thing is, I don’t feel that difference when shooting at a deer. I guess there’s just to many other feelings going on.
On another note, when I’m hunting with a bow, I rarely sit down. Too often when I see a deer, it’s already so close that I would be making to much movement to stand up. I hunted on the ground twice this year and I remained on my feet then, too. dwc

in reply to: Recurve Bow Upgrade #60281There’s a Browning Wasp on ebay 55#s which are not seen often. They’re 56 long and nice bows. I have one that’s 45# which is the more common configuration. I think there are a lot of deals and good bows available. The Bears are in higher demand, probably for good reason, but there are others that are fine shooters that could be a steal and get the job done. Have fun with the search! Dwc

in reply to: ArrowMaster Side Quiver A+++ #59143I have one and loke it a lot. The pocket is good to carry the extras, like string, glove and knife, but is too high to put anything heavier like a bottle of water. It works really well for me.
When I got my longbow, I asked the bowyer for advice on quivers. He said, carrying extra arrows is a pain in the butt, you just have to figure out what works best for you.
