The deer will just think you’re the south end of a skunk. Dc
in reply to: Bow Building #17347Ghost, thanks for the encouragement. Perhaps sometime soon. I’d love to build an ASL sometime. I think it would be fun. best, dwc
in reply to: EFOC arrow trajectory #16956Red, as a reference I’m puling about 45# and shooting 635 gr arrows. I shoot instinctively out to about 20 yards. When I get past that I find myself referencing my arrow a lot more. Out at 45 I’m using my arrow tip as a front sight. I’m probably spot on at about 50. You’re right, it gets pretty loopy out there. My groups won’t win any awards out there. It’s for fun or for form work depending on the day. That said I think I’m pretty comfortable saying blind or blank bale is better for me for form practice. However, and I probably contradicting myself, when I practice long, short range shorts are easy. Best, dwc
in reply to: On The Wild Edge #9499I took time this afternoon to watch the film with my wife and we both really enjoyed it. From reading David’s columns, books and posts on this site I felt I knew much about him. This adds another layer to an important figure in our world of hunting and conservation, and how beautifully the two are tied together. The film is much about the man, could have been a little more about the woman (though I respect her privacy) and mostly about the word. I love a good biography and the point of the life would be missed without the message. Well done. I think I’ll watch it again and see if my local library would like a copy. Thank you Mr. Petersen. in reply to: Bow Building #61311That’s a neat site. You guys keep talking about this stuff and one of these days I’ll get talked into trying to build one.

in reply to: What ya got goin? #24889Congratulations! This is terrific. I’ll be looking for your posts. You must be relieved to make it to this milestone and on to the next. All the best to you, dwc
in reply to: Beautiful Scout #18889Wose, that’s a nice way to put it. Paleo, funny thing was through my binos I could see fish, probably sunnys coming up and slurping the surface for bugs. Dwc
in reply to: Toxophilus in Arcadia #18079What passes for acceptable behavior sure has changed over time, depending on where and who might be involved. Perhaps they could have gotten by with one or two nests. While the gulls did lay a fresh batch, it must have set them back. Days and hours can be precious where the breeding season is short.
Thanks for the post. I’ll take a look for that book. I think next on the list is The Island Within. Dwc
in reply to: Beautiful Scout #54619That’s a dry dam built for flood control. Made a nice swamp and a terrific habitat. Good water surrounded by woods and fields. The woods there are dense and I’m not familiar with them. I ordered a DMAP, Deer Management Assistance Program, tag for that state park, Tobyhanna State Park, and wanted to have a scout around. I might take my bow, but I might spend a day of the early muzzleloader season in there with my flinter. Haven’t done any round balling since I started this bow business several years ago. Doe tags might be a little harder to come by this year, so I figured I’d put a card up my sleeve just in case.
Going out and finding things your weren’t looking for is a wonderful thing. Gotta keep an open mind in this trad life or there would be no sense living it. One of my most memorable times in a tree stand was in the dead cold of winter and about twenty pine siskins flew into the tree with me. It only lasted about thirty seconds, but keeps giving me smiles. If it weren’t for the company of squirrels and my own imagination, it might get lonely out there sometimes! best, dwc
in reply to: Stumping and game cam check #54570Possums and skunks and crows mainly. No big racks that I’m aware of. I’d just like to see photos of those critters. It just never gets old. Big deer, chipmunks, good red squirrels. Gotta love it. I went to throw out some leftovers the other night and I saw a big white flag waving at me. A gentle, but hasty retreat was in order. best, dwc
in reply to: Stumping and game cam check #31365Nice shots. I’d like to borrow a trail cam to put next to my compost pile! Dwc
