That’s a great shot. It would make a nice holiday card. I’d be happy to get that one on the Fourth of July. You’re a man of priorities. Good stuff and more hunts to come, building on lessons learned. That second gun season was low odds, but much higher than sitting on the sofa. Best, dwc
in reply to: New Backpack Quiver #132490Steve, how did that elk hunt go? Did I miss your post on that? Dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #132415Charles, great story. It’s amazing that bow held up so it’s being draw within its design limits. My hunting buddy here has been using the same hickory bow he made more than 10 years ago. Every year it fills the freezer. Good luck with it! Dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #132383Charles , that’s a beautiful thing! Sounds like a great time and an opportunity or some folks to hear stories they never heard before. Congratulations on your wife’s retirement and the move back home. All the best to you , dwc
in reply to: ETAR: WE ARE COMING!!!!! #132275If all else fails head due west to the Mason Dixon line, ha! Actually, us PA folks think the the MD line is just the southern border of PA, when it actually does head south along the western side of Delaware, so if you managed to get lost in Delaware you could head west and find it. They only told us part of the truth in school… ha! dwc
in reply to: ETAR: WE ARE COMING!!!!! #132202Ahh, a sleep at the wheel here and also trying to be funny. After all these years, I should know better! ETAR is on the list. thanks! dwc
in reply to: ETAR: WE ARE COMING!!!!! #132196Grumpy, I was just making a wise acre comment about Norfolk being east of the Mason Dixon line… dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #132195Ralph, I didn’t complain about the cold this winter, but I’m first in line to gripe about the heat. 108 would have down for days. When it’s 90 here it’s more than enough for me. It’s 59 here and overcast. Perfect summer evening. Might be my Scots-Irish heritage kicking in.
Going light is a good idea. It nice that you have a choice. I do, too, between 46 and 45.
Did some blank bale and some let down work for a few minutes this evening. Starting to think more about October. Dwc
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #132192Got a rainy sort of Sunday today. Good excuse to be lazy. Might shoot a little later on. Gonna read a little now and then. Gonna watch some tube. Made a venison meat loaf, which is makes an all around loafers day.
in reply to: Archery as Metaphor #132189Just reread Denny Sturgis jr piece on mental speed bumps in shooting. One element of his final remarks was shooting blank bale, as Steve wrote above. It’s easy to forget the blank bale. Shooting targets is results oriented and blank bale is process. Fundamentals are always an essential part of high performance. We hear that over and over any time a champion is interviewed. Practice fundamentals and trust the process when the time counts. Denny’s piece is worth the read and reread. Watching Steve’s recommended Ted Talk fits right in. Dwc
in reply to: ETAR: WE ARE COMING!!!!! #132173Grumpy, where’d you get your compass? I’d like to get one like it. dwc
in reply to: ETAR: WE ARE COMING!!!!! #132166Grumpy, it’s all relative, right? I’m an hour and a half drive to New York City, but a world away. ETAR is about a 4 hour drive for me. Too close to get a hotel, and a lot for a day trip. Then I have cousins that put a drive like that in before breakfast. Every year I put it in the calendar and every year I end up working. I have a wedding on that Saturday this year. Maybe next year. Best wishes with your health. I’d rathet hear you make up a tall tale about your misses. Best, dwc
in reply to: Sharpening single bevel heads ? #132159I was looking through a couple older threads and thought this is one to bring back to the top. One thing I’ll add is I started putting my stone in a vise with rubber padding. This keeps the stone from moving and helps concentration on the edge. Dwc
in reply to: Archery as Metaphor #132143I just spent 13 minutes with this Ted Talk. A great perspective on why we need to spend time learning in order to improve in performance. I like the blank bale correlation. Thanks! Dwc
in reply to: Archery as Metaphor #132141Good post, Steve. I’ll have to check out this link. Ted talks are always interesting. Blank bale is a great way to practice and something I don’t do enough of. Oddly, blank bale is an excellent exercise in focus. Not so much for the eyes but for the body. After a few shots it’s easy to see how the mind wanders. Thanks for the reminder!
