in reply to: Native Finds #51528
My favorite find as a kid was a head of broadhead ax, sans handle. It was probably discarded out the back of a shop and thrown down over the bank to be buried under years of leaves. Those were back in the days of hunting chipmunks with my bb gun, probably 45 years ago. dwc
in reply to: Best account of true archery in Disney History #51486Looks like the disney folks watch YouTube! Great post, thanks! dwc
in reply to: With A Heavy, Heavy Heart #51481Doc,
Thank you for sharing this with us. We are a community and while I have not met you or your friend, I feel it with you. It is exactly like the famous John Donne quote. With his loss, we are the less.
Best wishes to you and all. dwc
in reply to: Meat grinder blues #51187Some years ago I bought a base model KitchenAid mixer and a grinder attachment for it. It was plenty up front, but it works great. For grinding, I think it probably better suited for small batches. We use it to grind steaks and roasts if we need burger, both venison and beef.
in reply to: Don Thomas Deer carry method? #43685Steve,
I like your quote. dwcphoto
in reply to: The Proverbial Soapbox #42837I’d keep buying a license and keep hunting. It’s like voting. It might not carry a lot of weight, but it gives you the unquestionable right to complain. dwc
in reply to: Mother Earth News #42755Feel free, although I’m sure I’m not the first to say it. I look forward to seeing the Mother Jones piece. I’ve enjoyed your writing since I found your interview in the Sun. It’s good to read something by someone who just makes sense.
Best, dwc
in reply to: Mother Earth News #42640I’ll have to look for that issue. The far, far left and the far, far right are neither liberal or conservative, but I suppose like all the other animals in the forest, they have their place, too. dwcphoto
in reply to: Cork Screw #42634I did some shots with a variety of 5 gr brass washer that suggested my arrows are too limber. I only trimmed about a 1/16 of an inch and it seemed to straighten them out a bit. More shooting to do, of course.
Thanks, dwc
in reply to: Cork Screw #42408Thanks Guys. Good things to work on. I have been working on form, mainly the rotational draw via Moebow’s video I think. It definitely has helped tighten up my groups, but maybe that also has caused a little increase in draw length. I do try to use a fairly deep hook on my string hand, but I know that sometimes I find my grip on the string lengthening, too.
Funny thing is when I bareshafted the other day, it was flying right in there, straight as an …
Thanks for your input. dwcphoto
in reply to: A long look at fletching and EFOC #35287Just a thought, but maybe you could try making a heavy adapter out of the same compound they make hard cast pistol bullets out of. I’m sure they wouldn’t last as long as a steel part, but those things are very durable. I’ve dug them out of a log that I thought I could reload and shoot again. dwc
in reply to: Tent Recommendations #31723My two cents. I’ve had two good Eureka tents over the years. I’m due for another. Good tents, not expensive. Both got a lot of hard use for many years before they started to leak.
I can vouch for REI and Campmor as two good places to get reliable gear for camping. dwc
in reply to: Left or Right Bevel……??? #27959I’m shooting right wing because I got a deal on my first jog and it happened to be right wing. If I don’t use something to keep the points tight, they work themselves loose. I use a very small dab of hot glue on the thread and screw it in while it’s warm. On my judos, I use a bit more and put it in while it’s still really oozy. You don’t have to use heat to get them out, just pliers. dwc
in reply to: Target Panic #27925Joe,
You make an interesting point. Usually, when I feel something is off, my anchor is in place, it’s my bow arm that’s not fully extended. dwc
in reply to: Target Panic #27493Hey J,
Thanks for the note. Much appreciated. I’d love to get out to one of the bigger shoots, but it’s not in the cards these days. Economy and having two children at home keeps me close. The kids are the good part, the economy part can get better as far as I’m concerned!
I’m going to try to get to the Cloverleaf Archery Club, PA Longbow Assoc. winter meet in Milford Square the end of of the month. That’s a day trip and much more doable. One of these days I’ll take a trip and try to put some faces on these nicknames.
Feel free to email or call anytime. Love to talk shop.
