I think I still have that one around somewhere. Got that in one of the old Outdoor Life book clubs I think. dwc

There’s  a possibility that when shooting bare fingers you are trying hard to keep the pain to a minimum and using a nice deep hook and proper form. Those things seem to quiet the bow for me. When the bow gets loud, I know I’m getting lazy with my form. I’m mainly shooting a Duraglove and sometimes a Black Widow griptite and more recently I tried a Black Widow tab. My nocks are too loose to use a tab. I dry fired my bow a couple weeks ago and it scared the Bejesus outta me. dwc

R2, that’s an awesome target! I’ll be sure to shave before I hunt in your neck of the woods.  Still chillin’ at the beach, til tomorrow morning. Caught three little fluke and a Stargazer yesterday morning. Haven’t fished yet today, but I just might. Reading another chapter of The Island Within. Been reading a few pages at a time of this book for a few years now. What a great read.

There’s also an excellent article in the NY Times called Losing Earth, The Decade We Almost Stopped Climate Change.  Also, Art Lee, fly fishing writer, passed away on July 25.

Best wishes to you all! dwc

Took a week off to make a shore trip with my family. Great time. Picked up a cheap rod to give surf fishing a try and love it. Caught a few small fluke and some other surf dweller I can’t get an ID for. Beautiful fish, only about 10-11 inches long with beautiful spiny fins. When I released it instead of swimming off it dug right down and disappeared into the wet sand.  Really cool.  Back to the mountains later this week, back to work and back to getting ready for deer season.  Got my license, one DMAP permit and one doe tag with another application in the mail. Making my annual donation to hunter land management and a ticket to some time in a tree.

I’ll third that suggestion to get a coach. I’ve studied all the online coaching, including Arne and Jeff Kavanaugh and others. I’ve also read quite a bit and have one of the Masters of the Bearbow dvds. These are all great things. You’ll notice one thing when you look a little deeper. All top shelf athletes have a coach, just like beginners. That’s gotta tell us something.  What we can learn from a good coach in an afternoon can take us a long time to learn on our own.

Mike, thanks for the note. He’s done a terrific job at getting his word out over the years. He owes me nothing, ha!  Glad you got out for a visit. Seems like the whole world’s on fire, one way or another.  Give him my best when you speak to him. Same to you.  I look forward to crossing paths with you one day. best, dwc

Hey Mike! Great to see you pop up. The Island Within is a beauty. Very thoughtful. I trust this finds you well. Anything new from that fellow out in Colorado?  All the best to you. Had to work this weekend so no ETAR for me again. Funny, I shot a wedding for a family from Wellboro, a town out that way. All the best, dc

Steve, thanks for sharing that link. Neat stuff. Glad someone is holding on out there, if by a thin strand of sinew. It reassures me somehow, as does a remote peak I know I won’t climb. Knowing it’s there in its wildness is good for my soul, as I enter this conversation on my cell phone. dwc

R2, I’m not that big on puzzles, but I love a Mocking Bird. There was one on my paper route when I was ten. Always in the tree at the same house. I marveled at the repertoire that thing had. Very cool bird indeed. Humidity here has dropped down to about 68% right now.  It was worse for a few days and too dang hot. Front moving in to give us Easterners a break for a few days.

Today I mail my first doe permit application. It’s a special time in PA!

                          All the best, dwc

Webmom, thanks for your help!  Turns out I did have the Touch turned off and adjusted the hold. Same situation. Oh well. As you remember, I was the one who had trouble getting on the site before. A multiple day power outage seemed to reset the router for me. Thank you very much, david

Being a landlubber, I had to look up Splice the Mainbrace.  Ha! I like it. Happy Fifth of July!

Thanks Scout!   Webmom did respond to an email earlier. I wondered if any iphone users had any ideas. Nice hot sunny Fourth of July here. Great day to relax. We watched the first segment of Ken Burn’s Vietman this morning and will probably get a hike or swim in at some point.  Ham BBQ coming up! Best, dwc

Happy Fourth of July folks! Careful with those firecrackers or you’ll be using a very deep hook on the bowstring this fall! Best, dwc
