Happy Birthday, Alex. Nice deer, great shot, great story. Good memories. best, david
in reply to: Judging Distances #56237When I set up a stand I have my comfort max in mind. When I’m in the stand I know where my boundary is so I don’t have to guess myself when I need to focus. I’m still in the finding out how that works stage! dwc
in reply to: "The Good Hunt" update #51800It’s a great project. I’m also looking forward to the complete film. All the best, david
in reply to: Introduction of new member #35823Welcome. Great to hear of your interests. Makes me thirsty. dwc
in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #29894I’m seeing some nice shots here. R2, I’d be afraid of skipping one off the top of that torso into the mansion window in the back! dwc
Make sure you take some bags of nuts and dried fruit along with you. Their are also some decent freeze dried meals you can heat up just as quickly. My backpacking buddies and I used to eat two bags each of instant oatmeal in the morning with tea and a few handfuls of trail mix and we were set. Take a look at the salt levels in those MREs, too. You might be packing or filtering a lot of extra water. Have fun, dwc
in reply to: Ring Finger #29831I watched Jeff Kavanaugh’s video last night and realized I’ve seen others of his. He does a real nice job of explaining what he’s trying to get across with a pleasant temperament. Thanks for putting that up. best, dwc
in reply to: Killed a Beautiful Bear Today! #29819Nice story, very nice bear. Congrats. dwc
in reply to: Ring Finger #28978That’s one good looking finger. Makes me tingle all over. I thank you guys for your input on this. Seems like the high elbow is the general consensus. Funny thing is that lately I’ve been thinking my elbow was too low. I tried to be conscious about it this afternoon. I shot about three dozen arrows from my elevated practice stand and was winging them right in there with some really tight groups and no real discomfort in the ring finger. It is a bit tender, but it was before.
Thanks again. Much appreciated, dwc
in reply to: Ring Finger #27956Yep, I’m lucky… found the right girl. The ring finger on my left hand is just fine. thanks, d
in reply to: New vids on woodsmanship, etc. #27955I’m not exactly sure what it’s made of, but it’s like a lightweight tarp you’d buy in a hardware store, only free. I was looking for a good way to make targets and I got the idea while driving along a billboard strewn highway. I’m using them for targets, stuffed in feed sacks, and cut in strips to cover firewood. I gave some to a friend who will use them to make shelters are a dog shelter. dwc
in reply to: New vids on woodsmanship, etc. #27926Clay, good stuff. I’m thinking of trying that with some recycled material they use for billboards out this way. Thanks for a great video. I look forward to seeing more. dwc
in reply to: Ring Finger #27906Thanks, Doc. Whoever that person is, I’ll welcome his or her opinion. One thing other than a tender finger is sometimes I get more noise, but it does not seem to affect the accuracy by much. Maybe if my groups were tighter I would see a difference! Thanks, dwc
in reply to: Canting the bow #22313I’m pretty sure my cant varies in different situations. When I’m low to the ground I know I cant more. I also practice an opposite cant from my elevated practice stand for a variation of shooting behind and to the left (I’m a righty). It works pretty good at hunting ranges. I’d have to be feeling very confident to use it while hunting, but I think it’s good to practice all angles of shots. dwc
in reply to: The 2013 Season Bulletin Board #20622That’s beautiful! Where do you put the piano? I have to say, I’m slightly jealous… dwc
