Reminds me of a trip I took once to the Delmarva Peninsula around Easton Maryland for Deer and Sika Deer. Those Delmarva Fox Squirrels are huge! You can’t miss seeing them with those white front paws. First time I saw one I thought it was a cat coming through the woods. Back then there was no open season on them. Hope the population has rebounded now.

Ive “upgraded LOL” to a pse kingfisher. I got that longbow , cause I am so interested in the history of bows & found the english bow interesting. and it was cheap 85$ I will not take it hunting though , shoots too slow at 45#
kingfisher is better,Well I’ll make sure mine stays in the aquarium. Are they edible? Mine is about a foot long and about 16 years old.
Yeah, that type of longbow can have a good bit of hand shock. Good luck with deer hunting the week of Thanksgiving!
Duncanin reply to: Tell Us About Your Username #51893Good one Patrick!
OK, a “snuff-or-not” is a cheap baffle for a motorcycle straight pipe. It is basically a small “pan” shaped piece of stamped steel with four 1/8″ holes drilled in it. The handle or tab goes through a 1/4″ hole drilled in the end of the pipe and is held in place by a spring loaded nut. It flips open or shut on an indexed washer. A very simple muffler, hence the name snuff-or-not. Of course I preferred my pipes wide open!
Now that was probably not what everyone was thinking about my handle, right?in reply to: Your first whitetail? #51879Wow, that looks like the algae eater I have in my aquarium only alot bigger.
What type of bow are you using?Duncan
in reply to: yesterday was a beautiful day of bank stalking #50810I enjoy bow fishing. I’ve taken carp, bowfin and jumping mullet. I bet those tilapia are sporting and good eating too.

in reply to: Your first whitetail? #49723My first year I hunted with a 47# Bear Alaskan which I did not shoot very well then. Due to the lack of a real mentor and inexperience I did not connect that year. The next year my buddies talked me into one of the new compounds and I lost the first deer I shot. Inexperience again. After the next season I became frustrated with the compound and went back to my recurve. I practiced hard and then one day everything clicked. A nice doe walked by me quartering away and I drew and shot my arrow straight through her. It was a great day of hunting for me. I guess that was about 3 years of trying. Today it would be easier because the deer density is much greater per square mile than when I started. Maybe that is a factor in the number of opportunities you have.
in reply to: God's Dog… #48590Steve,
I also operate under the rule that if I can’t or won’t eat it
I don’t shoot it. I would have let him walk too. I’m the same way about crows. Crows are much more social than people realize. I’ve enjoyed watching them raise their young around my place. I know alot of folks like to hunt crows and other “varmints” and thats fine, I just don’t care for it. There still seems to be plenty of them.
Happy hunting,
Duncanin reply to: When and why do you replace your glove? #48579Thanks for everyones input. Sunday I did notice that my glove has a groove in the fingers so I’ve orded a new glove with the nylon reinforcement in the fingers. Before this thread I had not really noticed it and after all the glove is at least 10 years old. Montana, sorry to hear that you lost your gloves!
in reply to: Centaur longbow #46909Don’t know much about the Centaur. Beautiful contrasting lams though. Enjoy shooting it!
in reply to: String Tuning #46174I’m a lefty and I sometimes have the same problem hitting to the right. I have a takedown that I shoot alot at the club and at home and I really have to pay attention to the string tuning if I have taken it down to go to the club after work. (don’t want to get fired for having a weapon at work so it has to be in a case and out of sight in the car) I think I will try that extra knock to see what it does. What Pothunter said sounds worth doing too. Never thought about reducing the length of my serving.
Patrick,
I’ve got one of the plastic jobs that I bought in the mid 80’s and it still works great. The only problem I’ve had with it is occasionally I have to glue the steel plate that sticks to the magnet back in place. If I were to drop some major cash on one I’d go with the Jo-Jan 6 fletch deal and fletch 6 at a time!
in reply to: Hickory Self Bows #46085Anybody use any native bamboo? I have some that I harvested at my Dads place. The largest stalks are about 3-1/2″ in diameter. The problem with it is the radius. Is it possible to flatten it any?
Duncanin reply to: When and why do you replace your glove? #46065Thanks Guys,
Those Damascus gloves are very supple so there really is not much of a break in with them but I think I want to try the type you both mentioned. Is there a prefered brand?
As for tabs, I love a NEET brand tab with the wool or neoprene finger separator. Snuffy is right, tabs can be aggravating to hunt with. I’ve dropped mine from tree stands a time or two. Also got caught by a nice doe while trying to fish it up with my pocket knife tied to a cord. Another reason I don’t use tabs or treestands anymore.Duncan

Eric WillYep, that’s me, a chip off the old block. Dad used to say, “use it up, wear it out, and make it do” a true child of the post depression. I was just noticing my glove looked worn and my shooting has been good one day and bad the next. Can’t decide if its me or the glove. 😕
