        Thanks Steve,
I’m ready for the leaves to change and the air to be brisk again.

I’m going to cut Howard some slack. For one, camera equipment back then was huge and cumbersome. Getting a real kill shot was nearly impossible. Not like today with hunters wearing their own HD “kill cams” on top of their hats or mounted over their stands. I’d say microchip technology has made us forget how it used to be. So I don’t doubt that Howard could make an honest kill, his camera crew just could not capture it with the equipment they had to work with. So they did the next best thing and staged a replica scene.

All I can say about Byron Ferguson is that if he has been able to make a living off of archery then more power to him. I doubt anyone would come to see me shoot . Folks come from near and far to see Byron’s shooting.

I have had the privilege of meeting Fred Bear in person. We conversed with him for a little while and I came away with the impression that Fred was a real gentleman. I wish I could have listened to him tell a few of his hunting stories around a camp fire. What a treat that would have been. Always regretted not bringing my Alaskan for him to sign.

Oh well, maybe we will cut his trail in the Happy Hunting Grounds…..

I have many memories from recent and long ago hunts with my father. A short funny one was the evening he hiked over to my stand to collect me for the walk out of the woods. I was using a cutting edge tree stand tool, the Baker Climbing Tree stand, as I began my decent using the instructed bear hug around the tree I lost my death grip on the tree at the same time the stand lost it’s bite on the tree. Well, like a scene out of a Keystone Cops movie I slid down hugging that tree and came to a sudden standing stop at the bottom. I just remember my dad saying, “No…I knew I didn’t like that thing”. Wow, that was over 30 years ago!

I’ve still got my Baker. I tore up plenty of hunting clothes using that thing until I figured out I could use the strap to help me climb. It is collecting dust now, a piece of bowhunting history.

Say, how about that Part II????

OK, found a pair of Old School Converse wrestling shoes.

These things are quiet! For some they might not have enough support. I slipped a pair of foot beds in them and improved on that. Now to get some dirt on them to get rid of that shine. These will be good if the weather stays warm and dry into Oct. If not I’ll go to my LL Beans.

Wow that is a lot of regulation, probably loaded up the forum server, quite a bit. No offense King, you have my respect as a hunter, but if I uploaded the NC regs on deer hunting and every local law in all 100 counties it would also be monumental in size.

As for not knowing and relying on your PH to keep you on the right side of the law, I’m on the fence on that one. I’d never hunt in another state without personally looking over the regs before going, but that is just me, I like to plan ahead. But, if I had the Nuge’s financial backing and could hop a private jet this morning and be on a hunt somewhere by lunchtime I might rely more heavily on the PH. Obviously, the State did not accept that as an excuse and did not absolve him of his responsibility.

And no, I do not even remotely subcribe to Ted Nugent’s style of activism.

                    Dave,
If you have it in hard copy it can be scanned as a .pdf file. If you have it saved as a .pdf already Robin can probably just post that. If it is in a Word or similar electronic document, there is a free downloadable .pdf converter that will convert .doc files to .pdf and it is pretty easy to use. Its called PrimoPDF.

I know, I’m still very interested in a Great Northern Bushbow. Was looking at them before I bought the Predator. I like my JD Berry Yahweh but it is about 68# and I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to handle it again. I wonder if they would reduce the weight for me ans put a new finish on it?

Grandaddy perched over the pig chute with a butcher knife. Daddy and his brothers drove the hogs through the opening and Grandaddy cut their throats. Sometimes he popped them with a .22. If you want pork it has to be done. It is part of farm life. I think it would be OK to slaughter your own meat if you want to do it. It is like owning the responsibility I think. Some folks can’t do it and that is OK too.

For small game I use a back or side quiver so I can carry enough arrows. While deer hunting I carry at least one judo or blount in my bow quiver.

                                Steve,

Well, I had wanted a roof over that foam bale for years and I set out to build one this weekend when I noticed the dog house, once occupied by a dog that is long gone, was rotting on the sides but the removable roof was still good so I recycled it and tore down the rest of the house. The antlers are some plastic ones that came with a deer target, I always seemed to be tripping over them so on an impulse I mounted them to the new target roof.

Thanks for the compliment on the art work. I usually make my own targets but will buy them if I find a neat one like those deer photos blown up to poster size. I used to buy those.

Sounds like you had a great time in the Blue Ridge this weekend. Sounds like a great place to hunt.
I peeked in on the forum all summer, but I was hanging out on the fishing/boating forums alot making a nuisance of myself. Did not actually fish as much as I wanted to due to the extreme heat but still had some fun.
Now I’m starting to get excited about bow season coming up and being able to hunt on Sunday gives us an extra day each weekend. Good to hear from you.

In NC the seasons are divided into 4 areas Eastern,Central,NWestern, and Western. These regions come close to being along the geographical changes in NC but I’m sure it is also based on herd population etc. Opens Sept 11 in all but the Western which opens Sept 13 but each region ends on a different date. However the bow is legal in the other seasons which go to Jan 1 except the Western which closes Dec 11.
I usually forego the early season and wait for cooler weather but you never know when a crazy cool front will come through early
