Here’s an idea. Continue to use your back quiver as normal but put a broadhead sheath on the upper limb and carry one arrow in it at the ready. Then the only time getting another arrow would be a problem would be if you miss 😀

        Steve,

Could you give me some hints on adhesive and top coat?

        Thanks,

        Duncan

I have a Predator take down recurve, 50# @ 28″. True, the take downs usually have more mass in the riser and are heavier that a one peice. That is the trade off with being able to disassemble it for travel.
It might help to make a list of the models that interest you and then call the makers to find out who has the lightest riser if weight is an issue.
There is no doubt that my one peice bows are lighter by comparison but I find that the added weight of my take down has little bearing on how it shoots. It shoots great and I’m going to hunt and shoot with it until I’m too weak to tote it!

George I see some creeper in there but that to the left looks like “leaves of three” 🙂

Wish today’s catalogues were more like those old Herters. No Realtree on those knee high rubber boots. Just OD green.

Had a big sow check me out in my stand on a hunt in Quebec once. She stood up on the tree and shook it several times. I figured other hunters had been spotted in that same tree so she was checking. Talk about uneasy. She was not a legal bear and she had cubs so shooting her was not an option. Poking her with a broadhead if she kept coming was in my thoughts though.

To combat this I switch to just 3 or 4 arrows and limit my shooting time. I think it comes from too much intense shooting at once. The logic is that your first shot in the woods must count so I take a few shots with 2 arrows in the morning before work and again when I get home. I make my practice a little heavier on the weekend but I’m giving myself a rest during the week but without going completely cold. This may not be a good strategy for a competitive shooter but I think it will help a hunter to control those fliers.
Also watch for changes in your form in regard to your bow arm. Dropping or moving the bow arm at the release can change Point of Impact. I know for me intense shooting sessions can make me develop bad habits like that because my muscles are getting fatigued from the repetition. In shorter sessions I can concentrate better on my form.

A sharp knife works for me. I have not actually tried this, but steam from a boiling pot might heat the glue enough to make it pliable enough to lift the feathers off.

                        Hey George,
That is a sexy rig but watch out for that poison ivey!

PS to stay on topic, I shoot both just not at the same time….

I’m shooting a new Predator take down and it shoots great. The lines are reminiscent of the old Super Kodiak. Great thing about a take down is you can change limbs as your weight requirements change. I too have moved down in weight due to aging. There are many choices of wood combinations to choose from. Check out the website at Hunters Niche, there are usually a number of risers posted there for sale. Reduces the wait time if you can choose a riser already made.

Just add some craft fur with some hot melt and you’ll have yourself some Hobbitt feet……..

Don’t look at the deer.. only thing you should see is the blue tape. AIM SMALL. 😀

The foam bale with the roof over it is good for broadheads. The shop I bought it from in the 80’s said it was carpet foam over-run. They cut it into blocks with a chainsaw and it sold for about $30.00.

                              Visualize the blue tape…….

Made up some camo cedar shafts……

                                  Fletching ’em up……

Tipped with 125 gr Zwickey 2 blade. This one found the elusive piece of blue tape!

Can you tell I’m getting excited about deer season? I was happy that there were no fliers in this half dozen. They are all wanting to be number one in my quiver!
