Ok, watched the Jeff kav clip and the moebow bow arm clip. I am no longer getting string slap. I got my bow more on he heel of my hand and seems to be working. If I were to bend my bow elbow at full draw it would be at about a 45 degree angle to the ground. Should it be more? I believe Jeff’s clips says the elbow should bend at a 90 from the ground. I can’t make that feel comfortable..

      Thanks Doug K

        Steve,

I think I only have a half inch of play in my brace height. At least that is what is recommended. I am looking forward to getting that book so I can figure out what to do with my bow shoulder. I watched the link with Jeff K and it was helpful but I already have me elbow pointing in the right direction. I think I get my shoulder to far back and it pulls my string in closer to my arm.

            Great,

So is he twisting at the waist to help get his string elbow all the way around? A more open stance but is using his hips to get rotated around.

I also don’t know what the heck my bow shoulder should be doing. Should it be down and forward or back like I am pinching my shoulder blades together. I don’t get the bow shoulder????

            thanks for the help

I would love to get away from using an arm guard. I think my bow arm is to straight. Need to work on it.

I shoot only slightly open. I find that if I get my stance to open I cant get my elbow around far enough which means I wont come straight back off the string. If my elbow is not in line with the arrow I will pluck the string. Anyone else have that problem?

                      Steve,

Those are what I was talking about, thank you. They do seem a little steep. I use beaver now and its kind of a pain to untwist them and move them around during the tuning process. I tried the rubber string leaches but they didn’t silence my bow enough. Hopefully these will speed up my string and dampen it enough. I will try them and see.

                      Thanks again,

                      Doug K

                        Good call Steve,

Do you know the name of the silencers that are made of wool or felt maybe that you can slide up and down in the string without untwisting the string. I saw them a while ago and cant remember the name.

                        Thanks,

Really appreciate your help. I don’t know anyone with this long of a draw. It’s a pain. But the arrows fly fast.

Thanks for the response guys! I will check out the link when I get a little time. Jwesbrock. Why a lighter shaft. I have been shooting and hunting for only about four years and still don’t understand gpp? I am also not that smart. Thanks again.

I talked to a guy last year who didn’t recover his high country mule deer until two days later. He said “but at least I got my buck”. What a butthole. I have got the feeling of being looked down at because I shoot cow elk. I am in it for the meat and the experience. I have antlers and I love looking at them and will gladly shoot a bull. But if a cow gives me a 12yd broadside I take it as a sign.

I will probably stick with the single bevel as well. I need to get them sharper. A friend shot a mulie in the high country two years ago with a grizzly bh. I think it was a Kodiak model. Long story short it went in bad and came out worse. And we found the buck a couple hours later. I think the way it spins in the cavity really causes major damage. There was not very much blood but it was a poor hit. Great thread

I agree sharpness probably does have something to do with it. I cant get a single bevel as sharp as a double. But it is sharp enough to get complete pass through. Keep in mind I have only shot two elk with traditional tackle. I was always so worried about penetration. Now penetration is the last thing on my mind since both shots were complete pass through. I don’t know how my set up would fare on a shoulder shot though, even with a single bevel I don’t know if it would get through it anyway. 60lbs 680grains total 25foc. I was thinking about switching to a wider head to get a better blood trail. The bull I shot 2 years abo ran downhill and was a lone so tracking wasn’t that hard. The cow I shot this year was not alone and there were tracks everywhere. I shot her in the heart so I just found her. But if she wouldn’t have died so quick I would have been in trouble because the herd bolted in about 10 directions immediately. Hard to say what the best thing is.
