Thanks for the response, I have a similiar [ Black] tgt that works as you say. I use it in the back yard but is becoming ” sliced to threads “. I remember your sandpit range. Unfortunately all the sand near me is full of rocks – haha. My 6″ deep tgt lets them pass almost [sometimes all] all the way thru or caught by the fletch. I retired it. my 2″deep one is 20+yrs old. it is designed for BHs and catches carbons/tuffheads with about 10” of arrow sticking out the back. I take it to camp [ if I am near the truck ] for practice and is holding up so far. I wish I could find something similiar to replace it-but havn’t seen anything as portable. I have ordered the brass field points. However I still like to shoot BHs regularly.
Thanks

Thanks for the extensive response. I just put a couple tuffheads on 2 easton axis carbon 400 shafts and stepped outside, they shot very well out of one of my heavier lbows.
I noticed the large, long internal ferral and was wondering how best to solve/harden the set up so it would stay together. You answered that before I asked! Very much appreciate your advice.

Just received my tuffhead order — very well made and quite sharp right out of the Package. I think Dave mentioned you were going to touch up yours. My question is, are you going to do any modification/more sharpening of the point – even reshape a little to get a better cut on contact point.
Enjoy reading your studies, very interesting and informative. Have fun living/hunting in Texas I always do —

I just ordered some tuffheads for myself and was wondering what make/spine carbon arrow you were using in your shrew for these heavy heads? I have a Shrew Classic Hunter 54″54lb@ 26 { I draw 27+]I am going to set up for this head. Trying to cut the development curve for myself –so to speak
Scoutin reply to: Back vs. Bow Quivers #26909I started with a Back Quiver and still use it, if I want to carry a lot of arrows [ Back packing in]. When I hunt– the Bow Quiver is the one I much prefer. I find it easier to quietly move thru brush/heavy growth with, than any other type [ for me at least]. I also like my arrows attached to the bow for stealthy removal/stringing, if I just happen upon game.I mostly still hunt/spot and stalk.

Wonderful pixs — you picked a really good spot
to live in — I have been thru your city[ yea – it use to be a real sweet lil town] many times and it is getting trampled, more and more. However it looks like your part of the Mtn is holding up well. I am happy it worked out so well for you. I’am Envious of your good decision to make a “Freehold” there, I hope it holds for your Lifetime! I trully do–

I agree on all points in my experience .Wildschwein, the easist way around the scent gland is ease it off as you skin it [ rather than try to cut it out]. and don’t touch it too any meat

Great Camo job Mr Downing, bits and pieces, all broke up —
You should write an Article for Tradbow. It is obvious you have it sorted out, imho.

you bring up a very good point of different game animals reaction to level of scent. Very dependent on their experience and frequency of exposure to our/other hunters threat.

Yes I use [scent free]baby wipes nowadays. I use a solar shower if I don’t have to pack it far [truck camping],or just bath in the creek [if available not too cold]. I wash all my clothes/gear with scent free soap and pack em in bags w/cedar chips.
