in reply to: How to ruin a hot spot #27434
Here in the Southwest {AZ/NM} I see more and more tree stands and Cameras chained to trees in the Public lands. Each region seems to have a different attitude [ enforcement of regs]towards it. I have RARELY seen a uniformed member of the Forest Service off the main roads [ I spend a lot of time in the field]
However, every “Tank” / water hole / developed spring* that is known on GPS [ other than wilderness – maybe]has at least 2 and sometimes 3 brushblinds that have been there for many years. You can always tell which ones are in current use by fresh cut saplings etc [ technically illegal] This is usually heaviest wherever the Outfitted Elk Hunting is going on. The Competition here among the Guides is HEAVY — there have been fights over the waterholes!
* 10 yrs ago I would have said “accessible by a major forest road” — now the ATVs have gone almost everywhere they physically can [ enforcement!?!] these A——s drive there machines around the edge to check for sign!!!
I realize that the monies for the Feds to keep the vigil is drying up — I guess we best step in–
ScoutPS – there are still places – in odd out of the way spots- if you “Hump your Ruck” deep enuff, you can get away from these “People” — although it is becoming much more difficult
in reply to: Shooting Form Question #27403Steve McD
Up close [ under 15yds] or Moving Tgts I pull thru —
15 + to 25yds [ My Max Range hunting – but practice further ]
I hold then release.
I tend to be more accurate/precise hits with hold { dead}/release–
I am afraid I have become an amalgam of techniques I have picked up over the years! Purity of form is not my strong suit– but I continue to work on it —

First time this happened to me. I had my Swiss army knife with the Corkscrew — took the tip of the corkscrew and wedged it inside the broken knock and pried it out [ no damage to the nock end of shaft]– field expediant fix.

Good looking Pooch ! If it is legal to use a dog to blood trail wounded game in IN — Dewey could fix some “bad” days for friends, allowing your canine companion some days in the field during the deer season.
Scoutin reply to: 150 grain single bevel? #16478Wildschwein –
I believe Zwickey is now making the “No Mercy” BH in single bevel — 130 gr weight — should make up close to what you want with the correct adapter [ short 26gr alu ?] — { 3rs}
Scoutin reply to: Harvest is not a 4-letter word. #16470I highly recomend to all members reading this post, to check out Smithhammers “the words we use” — excellent disertation on this subject. I wish I could write that well. I am afraid I agree with Smithhammer in my Heart and Mr Steve McD with my head. If we want to keep very much of the wild places, that are left – We all better start working at it { just sent in my App for BH&A}. So much habitat has been crowded out in my short time on the planet — well it is really scary and disapointing to me.

“Intent and Attitude are what really matter” — Exactly!
Scoutin reply to: Wee little muleys #16192Dave —
Great Picture! Fuels the Passion !
I also would really like to Kill/Take/ Render unto my Possession, a Really Nice Mule Deer Buck with the Traditional Bow. One of the Greater Hunting Challenges of the bow IMHO. I will be in ardent pursuit again this year!
Thanks for the motivation.
Scoutin reply to: Where have all the Grizzlies gone? #14970Called the Phone Number shown in the Grizz ad [PA]for a couple days now. Get a recording that says–” no one available to answer your call – please call again” doesn’t seem to have a provision to leave a message ?!
I guess the outfit is not operational for the time being —
Scoutin reply to: Please Carry You Camera – Photos Needed #14925Derek – Doc –
I totally agree, Love to hunt those pigs! All good eating if cooked low and slow!
Scoutin reply to: My first Deer is down! #14109Wildschwein —
Congrats! Well done! I am glad you were able to find him.
Your perseverance paid off – both in the hunting [ 4yrs] and the follow up.
Scoutin reply to: Where have all the Grizzlies gone? #11799Bounty Hunter —
Ditto — I was looking all spring found 6 at my local [ mostly Modern ] bow shop { been there a long time according to the young salesman}. Went to the Tuffhead, and will hunt with those this year–
I heard that the co [Grizzly] sold and was moved from Co — to somewhere back east [ clouderspot Pa- 814 274 0905 the ad says in tradbow]
But no one I contacted, at all the well known tradbow purveyors had any or knew when they would?
ScoutPs– I will give the PA No# a call tomorrow and report —
in reply to: Strung or unstrung?? #10877I am definitely not an expert —
But for the last 40 yrs — I unstring my bows when not in use – I especially would not leave them Hanging for long periods of time strung*! IMHO — so far, { knock on wood} I have not Had one break on me — or a string either [ change them out at least once a year- irregardless of condition]–
Probably excessive –but — it is working so Far
ScoutPS – I have Seven bows currently [ including my First one – 1970]*I exercise all of them periodically – so they also are not “unstrung” for long periods of time– “Balance in all things”
in reply to: Just tuned my arrows for Nilgai #10863CS —
Looks Like a good strong set up —- especially with the accuracy, you are getting–
Great Luck on your Hunt!
Scoutin reply to: Ask your bowyer. #61577DWC –
I am in complete agreement with the title!and Leon sounds like a great Bowyer — see below
If your Bowyer doesn’t seem to have the time or inclination to help you out [ no matter how famous] – find another – IMHO
A lot of great Bowyers out there now – find one that “fits your pistol” — Sorry – but it is a qoute from the “DUKE”
