Skifrk –
You would have to break out your “suburban” camo for “sneaky Pete-ing” around the “hood” haha. The feeding grounds look quite lush. Have you set up your blind at the wallow yet?
Elk hunting of the future!?

Good Luck — I hope you are not getting too much smoke!
Just saw a sat pix of CO — you got fires all around you,
although the WEBER to the west is showing the most smoke

For me 1st shot is most important, but I will, a lot of times shoot a 2nd or third from the same position, especially if a difficult shot/problem, to make sure it wasn’t just luck [haha] and hopefully get the synapes to memorize that set up–
Smithhammer –
you bet on the problem solving — I try to do the same — however at least in my case the problem– usually ends up being failure to hold a steady bow arm and /or poor release [plucking]

for me – that depends.
if I am having a good day and on [ in the zone]I may shoot for an hour or so, doing different drills.
If I am off [for whatever reason -feeling poorly etc] I will only shoot a few from about 15yds and stop. I prefer not to ingrain bad habits if having a poor day.
most ups & downs are caused by lack of concentration/not staying focused on the shot.
The first shot from any distance/position is what you would do in the field! – most important — when you can guaranty that shot! 1st time from any position you would shoot at game in the field [ haha] your practice regimen is perfect. A continuing work in progress for me.
I shoot my last shots of the day from 15yds as perfectly as I can, for form.

FYI –
Just talked to Don Ward [ Eagles Flight ] and he mentioned that Ron LaClair has some of the new “Mesa” Quivers {shrew version is called the “edge”}for sale –
Ron Laclair just revamped his website and there are some great pix of the new quiver in several variations –for any one interested.

in reply to: How to deal with mosquitoes? #18012I mostly bathe in deet if hunting in mosquito territory. Although if you could catch em in a swarm, Lee’s High Rate Gun {minigun}might be just the Ticket! haha [they sure are fun to shoot -worth a try]LOL–
Here in the SW, mostly, they are not much trouble. Especially this yr in the continuing drought-they will all be burned up soon with the rest of the forests.

in reply to: How Often Do You Practice? #18003I mostly practice daily – even on the road [ when possible ].
my backyard is a steep canyon. It has 60yds+ of straight range, and I have a number of tgts set in the hills to allow slope shooting and thru trees/between branches in 10 -30yd bracket.
I only shoot one-two arrows, then move my position at least a step or two. Since I am first [and foremost] a BowHunter I practice with my Bows in their Hunting format– as the season approaches I try to shoot twice a day { some kneeling/sitting} and get in some roving “stump” shooting.

Steve –
Sounds like my Favorite Bow Quiver just got better [own 3]
My only quibble* with the older style, was the need for a leaner/longer Hood to accomadate BHs like the Tuffhead. Sounds like that is solved. Looks like I will be ordering another Eagles Flight —
Thanks Steve for the “heads up”
Scout
* every thing else about this quiver is topnotch and works great for me – and truthfully the old model worked fine.
in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #14858David –
All of your last post , is why I enjoy reading and finding out your opinion on all things tradbow. I always carry spare strings and prefer them to be the same manufacture. Got an order in for SBDs, can’t wait to try em out as all here [who have], speak very highly of them.
I always trade up when I can-
Thanks

GM –
I have the Eagles Flight quiver on my Shrews [ both 54″ ]and I use the Larger cap [ Jumbo i think ] as I am currently using tuffheads – a long BH. I am very satisfied with this model for my needs–
Scout
PS If you decide to go this route—get the model without the brace { totem}, or request the brace made to the short distance of the shrew riser which eagle will do. I have one of each – both work fine – had them [use em hunting /shoot daily]2yrs now -no breakage /repair
in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #13917David –
Not trying to seem argumentative –
I have only had minor strech with my latest shrew strings? I am also a {shrew]newbie as I have only shot shrews for a couple years.
I unstring at end of use? { mostly daily }I was wondering if you leave your’s strung for longer periods [ as I understand a lot of folks do]? causing more strech?
Havn’t tried the SBDs – heard great things about em – I will give them a try soon.
Scout
in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #13787Nothing wrong with the “stock Strings That come with the shrew”!
Shoot more – shoot a lot with any good string!—it is the shooting!! [ properly done ] that matters in the end–in the field.
all of us worry too much about the Equipment{myself included} — worry more about your Commitment to skill — it can make average Equipement do marvelous things–and make a great finish to your hunt.
