in reply to: So I got a ghillie #45938
Thanks Doc-
I have a “upper body & head” Ghillie – that I have adjusted to allow good shooting with my bow. I have always “changed” it to fit the environment color/hue/shagginess [varying length of material] etc – hadn’t thought of using B&W photos to check brightness – great tip!

I also spent a little time at “Horno”in the 70s.
“Rattlesnake canyon” is on the road to Mainside if you went to 1st Mar Div HQ { main PX is over that way} Although just about any canyon on Pendleton could be called Rattlesnake –Haha
and Welcome Bud B !

in reply to: Camp Pendleton Rattlesnake Canyon Archery Range #45846I don’t recall when the range was built –but I shot on it in the mid 70s –good range at the time. I don’t recall many people using it very often then. Havn’t been back in many yrs, I hope the base kepted it up –maybe even made improvements!

sorry to see that R2 — I have had a lot of arrows/shafts come by USPS and so far {knockwood}all ok — In fact the lady mail carrier brings Bow & Arrow boxes to my house*! Intead of leaving me a note. I hope she keeps doing the job for awhile!!

* My Mail is one of those community boxes at the end of the road.
in reply to: Bow Stringer #44831Buy a stringer! for your safety and the longevity of the bow!
I started in the days of “step thru -push pull”. The Reason there are so many twisted used bows on ebay!
Stringers are CHEAP – work great – you can make one with Para cord & a couple pieces of leather—-

in reply to: Calculating FOC: question for Dr. Ashby #41000David –
Thanks for letting us know the final outcome of your 300gr Tuffhead/wood/efoc quest. It sounds like it would be “very difficult” to accomplish with my shrews [56lb @ 27 ]. I will stick with carbons for same when developing elk arrows. I managed to get a 660gr poc 225th -foc 18.42%, should be a good deer arrow.

in reply to: calibrating arrow scale. #38853good tip – you might be surprised how often coins are used – by weight, depth or width etc – as a field expedient measure –
to include Headspace & Timing for Ma Deuce [ 50 Bmg ]-haha

in reply to: Calculating FOC: question for Dr. Ashby #38445I realize I am very new to building and using efoc/uefoc arrows. My tendency would be to stay with the Standard [ bop]
or show both {P-inc } for the individual arrow set up.
My reason is it allows me to compare my arrows and their efficiency to all the others{the standard} recorded in the Ashby studies [ natal on], and everyone else from here on that adds to it—

in reply to: brass insert for 2018s #34549If they or Kustom King don’t have it — probably not easily store bought. I know some of the members have built their own footing Al w/ carbon etc – maybe one will chime in.
with my own limited experience in efoc I had to go up in spine to tune properly. As you proceed you may end up with a shaft that allows the Brass inserts?

in reply to: brass insert for 2018s #34508Did you check with 3rivers archery — I know they have them for some aluminum arrows?
