Not sure what degree of sophistication / price range you are looking for ?
Suunto makes a quality, handy wrist watch style compass for about 30.00 bucks.
Rei – Amazon sell them.
I use mine as a back up / have with me all the time compass – they hold up well. Haven’t broken one yet – misplace them sometimes for awhile – haha – I am over 60 —–

Excellent !
Interesting, that the foundation is taking the the next step on the ladder so to speak. Ie starting their ” own” but technically the same program where you stopped. I would imagine this helps in continued validation of the study? Please keep us informed as they get sorted out , so we can follow along. Do they have a web site yet?
Thanks

That is great news!
I am glad that this study will continue on in the same spirit it was conceived and your initial work will be added to and developed into a greater understanding of the issue.
Best of luck with it in the future and please keep us informed . Especially with future contact info. Is it still possible to send in reports, on our own experiences to the study?

Easton spine chart for your bow weight and draw suggests a 2117, 2215 or 2020 aluminum shaft if you have any of those handy to try.

That’s a real historical bow. I used to visit Groves Archery when it was still making bows. I attended Univ of NM in the early 70s.
Unfortunately I cannot answer your question. However, I know the daughter wrote a book ( mostly a remembrance- with a lot of newspaper/ magazine clippings.)and I believe it is still available on Amazon. Which might give you more information or at least the historical background of the bow.

As I recall they were fast bows –

in reply to: Temp and Bow Function #126124Paleoman
I only have a cooler system here in NM, so probably not close to the temp range you are wondering about (and low humidity ). I shot yesterday late afternoon. Temp inside was 72* outside 97* — I did not notice any change in how it shoots vs mornings where there is very little temp change.
Interesting question! I am going to observe more closely in the future any possible changes / adjustments required, especially in the more radical temp differences — as in heated house to below freezing.

in reply to: Even the Indians Knew … #123298If you have “no use for them” does not seem to show friendship ?
The argument is on that forum , which was my point.
As I recall this forum was placed here for people who wanted to discuss the benefits of the Ashby studies. When this issue showed up elsewhere in the past, it seemed to develop into endless argument from people who had no use for it. Those of us interested in the continued exploration of foc/ single bevel development, where hoping for a little breathing room for said discussion. IMHO

Interesting info. Followed your investigations into arrow lethality since the first publications of The Natal Study. Thanks for all the work and the education.
I thought this forum was for friends of FOC not enemies there of. The main reason it has its own forum.

in reply to: any advice? #51872If you stay in Alpine, the trout fishing is usually good at Luna lake ( boat is best although you can shore cast). The Black River ( think creek – at this altitude ) is fun to fish, but it is best to walk away from the road access points especially on weekends. I used to enjoy hiking to and along the Black at the more difficult to get too sections, for a good day in the woods and fun fishing. Usually did ok. Quite a few Black bears in this part AZ and many are good size, so take care and be bear aware.
Have fun it is a beautiful part of the SW, and you will undoubtedly see game. Take your bow -you can hunt mule deer on the archery tag.
