Hi James
Nice looking outdoor range – does it have any field courses or jungle lanes ?
Damn ticks seem to be every where on the planet except Antarctica ( might be there too if it thaws)!

in reply to: I need some good advice Bow-making Info! #134689Hi Kramer
Welcome to Tradbow.
I am not a bowyer and what little I know about the subject, is picked up thru the years talking to bowyers or “book learning” (sic). We have some members who are bowyers and others who “dabble” in the art. Hopefully they will comment on your post. I would use the “search the forum” engine ( above) to see past discussions of building bows, and or order past issues of tradbow that discuss same.
Our own Stephen Graf ‘s just finished book— on building the American Longbow is excellent and I highly recommend it —The American Longbow ( how to make one, and its place in a good life) by Stephen Graf – Ravens eye press.
Good luck on your bow building

I would definitely use a pad also. What is the seat material ? It looks thick.
Out here in the west, most of the good hunting areas are a ways off the road. I like the fact it has its own pack . I would probably modify the pack to haul my day stand possibles.
Thanks for the info

I like the design and construction of that stool. Looks like it would work well and be quite comfortable for long sits. A better stool than most I have seen for sale lately. A lot of the current stuff is very flimsy, leading to misadventures -haha- as R2 mentioned. I might build one if I get some extra time this winter. Thanks for the link.

in reply to: Shooting Glove #134669William
I am really happy with my American leathers glove. The glove fits me perfectly and I have used it exclusively for some years now. Holding up great. What Howard Hill version / maker were you considering ? I always liked the design of the H H but never found one that worked( fit) for me —

You bet
Forrester has a web site. Easy to find. Let us know how it goes and what arrows you finally make up to shoot in your 68lb.

Welcome to tradbow.
I currently only shoot wood arrows with my mid 50-55 lb weight bows. I shoot single bevel Broadheads on wood shafts for those bows. I shoot carbon to get better foc in my 60lb bows, partially for the reasons you mentioned. I have not tried to set up any wood shafts in my 60 lb, which is still a far cry from your weight. I have thought about building some wood arrows for my 2 heavier bows but havn’t got around to it yet, thus don’t have any current info. When I do I will check out Forrester wood shafts as he carries heavier spined woods than most and used to post here on occasion. I think he probably could steer you in the right direction on what to get.
Maybe some other members have tried to set up wood arrows in the heavier bows and will pass on their experience by posting an answer. Please keep us informed on your progress as I am interested in doing it myself.

Do you hunt in France ? What part ? What bow/s do you shoot? Have you hunted internationally before ? What game are you interested in hunting in Alaska?

Outstanding ! Well done on your deer hunt. Welcome to the forum.
Good luck on your continuing tradbow hunting journey —
I would listen to what Stephen Graf said about CO. It is not the elk hunt it once was.
In fact, most of the west is that way currently, due to many issues. Your idea of getting boots on the ground / scouting / and proper prep is the way to go for a DIY hunt. Although DIY is more difficult ( sometimes) it is also more rewarding. I find the big problem for most people is allocating the large amount of time required to set up the hunt properly. Best of luck on your CO foray .

Yes. Mostly. You will need to shoot them to see. Good starting point. Tune them to the weight limb you are going to shoot.
I would order a test kit ( arrows ) from 3 rivers. This allows you to try different spines / lengths / point weights to see what your bow likes best. When your starting ( actually always good) out this can be very beneficial. I now of course have a lot of different shaft types to experiment with but – still maintain my test kits . Just because the bow says its a certain weight – that isn’t always exact! It is a ball park figure. your shooting style can also effect the outcome.
But a tuned bow/ arrow is a joy forever —–some bows this is easy, others can take awhile. All part of the traditional journey
If you don’t already have it, I would recommend the traditional bowhunters handbook by TJ Conrads — I carry one in my archery war bag.

in reply to: Advice heavy arrow set up 38-42# #133989Hi kconner
Its Okay to shoot a longer arrow as long as it tunes well to your bow. My lightest bow currently is 51 lbs so can’t give you first hand experience in your requested weight range. My current wood arrows are for a 54lb bow at 26. They are 31″ long and weigh 630 .
If you shoot broadheads the shaft needs to be long enuff at your draw, so the broadhead doesn’t hit your bow hand ( or the back of the bow when you draw it)

in reply to: Good Night and More lessons learned… #133868Good story Steve- once again big bucks are where you find them! And usually not twice in a row. Sorry you didn’t get him . But now you know he’s out there! Great motivation for this fall——.
Only squirrels near me are ground squirrels , prairie falcons like them . Had a big Falcon watching my yard today. Squirrels didn’t go to the birdfeeder much.
