in reply to: More on "how to carry a deer." #142919
Nowadays i am ( like David) in the cut em up and pack out my game in parts mode myself . Especially if i am having to haul it any distance . Although this might be real handy for small deer in grizzly country —

I enjoyed the article also. Good reminder of striving to be ” in the moment”, focus, ” the concept of “empty mind” ( mushin) — especially helpful while bowhunting —

Yes
A lot of good advice on archery, bowhunting, and bushcraft in that book. An excellent one to have in the Bowhunting library.

Love the swinging tgts — going to make some for my own use. I think I will set them up with a back stop behind, to make the arrow recovery a little easier- haha

Yes , I have run into the same pulling of the point problem in a number of the ” tighter ” tgt mediums. I now ( mostly on my practice wood arrows ) really lay on the hot melt leaving a little ” blob” at the end – isn’t very pretty but if seems to keep the end of the head from being grabbed by the tgt and pulled off. I also refresh the melt ( heating the head and quenching periodically – seems to mitigate this problem substantially- so far anyway

PS – the tgt I have had the lest amout of the ” pull the point ” problem – especially with carbon high foc heads is the field logic ” layered” ( stacked sheets ) target .

If you don’t already have it – pick up a copy of The Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by Tj Conrads. A lot of great info and covers the essentials of tuning.

in reply to: Bear shaft tuning #142296If there is a tractor supply nearby they ( in the past) sell a reasonably priced, very tightly packed, smaller hay bale that is just the huckleberry for a archery target —-

The good old hay bale will work fine. I prefer the ” field logic” type target ie the modern foam types. Bags full of plastic / carpet parts I didn’t care for as they didn’t show the impact positions of the arrows as well.

in reply to: Hunting truck #142130It is amazing what you can get by with – if you use some ingenuity—
In my youth I have used a 64 Chevy Biscayne station wagon and a Ford fiesta out here in the Mtn West . Those hunts were mostly successful but quite the adventure in some cases ! Life on the edge – haha.

in reply to: Hunting truck #142121Hi Allen
Welcome to The site —
I use a Toyota Tacoma for most of my hunting. In fact I have been using toyota trucks for some time now.
How about you ?
