in reply to: Stump-Fire, Wetterling & Lunch? #19677
HA! I wish Wetterlings was paying me, heck a discount on axes would work too but alas it isn’t so.
Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it.
in reply to: broadheads #9623For the longest time I was using Ribteks, I don’t even think you can buy them in the States anymore. Think they are now only sold in Aussie land, least that’s what I heard. I still have about a half dozen in the broad head drawer.
About three years ago I tried some of the Wensel Woodsman’s, don’t guess they call them that anymore.
Either way, my tapered cedars love ’em. I’m getting great arrow flight with them.
Wouldn’t mine getting some more Ribteks though, does anyone know if those are still available somewhere or if someone has a secret stash and are willing to sell a few?

Heh, rather be shootin’ em Van, than gettin’ dizzy on glue fumes!
in reply to: fletching glue or tape? #8525Sounds like something is wrong.
I’ve been using Bohning fletching tape for 3 or 4 years now with not a single problem.Once I get the feather in the clamp I cut the end going to the roll.
Using a very thin and sharp knife I gently separate the pink backing from the actual adhesive, place the clamp into the jig and seat it firmly.
Remove the clamp and using my thumb nail I pull it along the quill making sure it’s seated well.
Repeat.
Once done I put a drop of glue on the tips and let dry. What used to take me an hour or so per arrow, using a Bitzenburger, I now do a dozen in less than an hour.
Check out the video at 3Rivers on the fletching tape if you need more clarity.

Let us know how they do in cold weather.
You’ll definitely feel the rocks. Part of my circuit includes about 1.5 miles of an old clear cut logging road where there are plenty of rocks. They show virtually no wear and I believe they would hold up well across rocks on relatively flat terrain, I would not suggest wearing them in rugged vertical country. Certainly not shale or exceedingly steep hill sides.
I’d think if one got to moving too fast in medium to heavy rocky terrain it would take it’s toll. I did cross two 8+ year old clear cuts where there is a ton of underbrush, downed small trees, lot of limbs and in general just a pain in the butt turf. They handled this quite well.
They do strap up in my snowshoes rather well. I don’t foresee any real issues in snowy weather. More to come as we get deeper into the season.
in reply to: What type of bow and arrow will you use this year #6182464″, 60# longbow made by Leon Stewart from Stewart’s Archery. Cedar arrows of my own make, tipped with Woodsman broad heads.
Depending on the weather, either the Kromer or the Fedora heh.
in reply to: Hunting Hats for 2010 #58260Love my Kromer.
