in reply to: Measuring Up #47983
J. and all, great comments and well said. This morning early while Lin was on the lower deck brushing the dog and I was on the upper–two nice bucks one 6 and the other 8 points were standing just off the trail about 10 feet from her and Goldie and a 15 yard tree stand shot from me–flicking their tails and just observing us. I said to my bride below–sure I can’t hunt here this year–she glanced up to me and said “well that wouldn’t be hunting as you describe it, just killing”. Good point dear.8)
Back to the challenge—wouldn’t want anything less as I see you all agree.:D

Thanks, I figured it was commented on before and vaguely remembered it but was to lazy to search—but if you spend any time with me (as my wife has) you will hear the same stories over and over–so she says.8)
Dusty attic–that’s a good one.
in reply to: 36" wool pants #46626Best hunting trouser I have ever owned. You will love them DK. Although I’m a bit shorter then that:lol:

in reply to: Happy Labor Day Weekend! #44527Weather great, warm days with cool nights no air conditioning needed so far this summer. Wojo, Ed Spur (with his new long bow) along with the bowyer
Greg Iden and his 14 yr old son and 10yr old daughter–son with bow he built and Reilly with her bow dad built showed up at 0900 for some shooting on my back yard course. Great fun had by all and hope to see Greg on this forum soon.
Nice dinner tonight with our friends at their lake house–military adviser to the Sect. Of State.
A nice end to the summer as the leaves have already started to change on our mountain. Deer season starts the 11th of Sept.

in reply to: Too Noisey? #41104Yeah, hired my neighbor who owns the plane to tow a target sleeve for Brennan, Wojo, and I to practice for goose season.
Mine were all in the sleeve, those are the other guys arrows. Adjudication of damages has been passed to Web mom.:lol:
Seriousl, don’t have a clue. Linda sent it to me and that’s about all I know or care about the picture. Be neat if one of you tech savvy folks could run down the “rest of the story”.

Col.Mike thanks for posting the link …..I am glad to see David Petersen still has the old fire in his belly. …Give them hell David .
Joe–I will pass on your comment. Positive reinforcement to his articles I’m sure he will appreciate although I think he gets motivated when we disagree–as difficult as that is.

That’s what I use and shoot through bales of wet straw with no problems. Change them out every 4 months or so–when they get so dirty they are ugly. Never had a fletch peal.
Keeps Joe Furlough in business as I experiment with colors-:D orange is best–when looking for those lost shafts. 😯

You don’t need any help. If you shoot better then you already do—wojo and I will no longer invite you to shoot with us.:D

Robin–please delete this thread. If Linda ever reads it I will no longer be able to dodge the Shakespeare in the park plays. She will simply point out that it’s a topic on “that” forum.:D:D
Dave–sorry you couldn’t make ETAR would have been fun meeting you. Artist’s 8) and I have to live with one:shock:
Much to sophisticated for this ole grunt.

Welcome to the tribe. We have another one of your countrymen on the site–ausjim–he is away now at your military academy search past posts for his insightful brand of BS.:D
Too your original ? — I shoot a 46# bow at my draw of 27″- http://javamanarchery.com/ I have the elkheart at 52″. Arrows are Trad only Easton 500’s cut to 29 3/4″ after bare shaft tuning in accordance with Troy Breeding’s instructions found at http://www.tuffhead.com/. 100 gr. brass insert with field tip of 300 gr. + 100 gr steel adapter. for hunting substitute the field point for the 300gr. tuffhead. Total arrow weight is 750gr. at 31.5% EFOC. I use A&A fletching. All of this stuff is available from Joe Furlong at Tuff head. This set up was for an elk hunt that didn’t happen:(. However in keeping with David Petersen’s mantra that there is no such thing as overkill on our beloved quarry–I use them for everything from 3-D, straw bales, whitetail and turkey. Oh yeah arrows are from 3 Rivers.
This combination fly’s like a dart and penetrates like a tank round– and as Steve said that EFOC compensates for a lot of shooter error.
Lots of info on this site–have fun with the journey and again welcome aboard:D.

in reply to: Smithhammer great article #30057Bruce
Excellent article. And the recommended readings are very good–great winter evening entertainment.
It’s probably been stated before–and I likely missed it–but, has anyone ever taken one of those north American Indian arrows out of the museum case and measured the foc?
