My best advice is just buy all of Dave’s books–use his website–You won’t be disappointed. Have Linda reading Hearts blood now. Having the distaff involved makes it much easier when you say–honey I need that new bow.:D

Thanks for the link–I’m in W.MD Deep Creek Lake but we are surrounded by PA and WV. The ETAR is about a 4 hour drive NE so looking forward to that. See you there.

Great looking bow–maybe I’ll see it in PA.
Dave
Please don’t sell another bow–Linda will cut my throat–but I gotta admit I don’t have to endure the wait time for production, and each of my bows has a trad history8)

Thanks for the info–I’m going (uh unless life intervenes). It will be my first rendezvous and first shoot on 3-d course. Guess I should also bring big credit card:shock:.
When I firm details will PM you so we can arrange a meet.
Enjoy Norfolk–trust you won’t be playing in one of those establishments–with sign out front–No Dogs or Marines allowed:D

in reply to: England big Cats #26835Mark–Well, Paul brought some of his traditional (just to make this appropriate for our site) brews when he visited here–might be worth the trip to check it out.
Damned fool idea–indeed-using the glove on a retired Marine:twisted: Of interest, not only does he brew great refreshments but he also runs a wilderness survival course-however taking that instruction from a former Royal is almost as dumb as dueling with a U.S. Marine.

in reply to: England big Cats #25418My good man–I’ve hung up the “dueling pistols” and gone traditional—so stout at 5 paces. The gauntlet is cast.
Check out this link ttps://www.facebook.com/blind.knaresborough. Owner is former Royal Marine and friend–he and his wife have visited here. Not sure how far his pub is from you, if close have one on me and tell Paul I will pay him in mushrooms–he will know what that means:D

Your form is almost perfect—I think after you put the arrow on the string your supposed to pull the string back toward your face and then let it go or something like that. But—again you have the loading phase down pat, good job. Thanks for the look at some of your exotic wildlife–I recognized the dingo, was that other critter a wallaby? I’m still 😆

in reply to: The most useful knot tutorial ever. #21183Ben
Great link although I don’t have a smart phone or cell. Wife gives me her cell when I’m traveling:shock: But about knots–from a background of climbing and teaching off shore sailing at the Naval Academy–IMHO there are only a few of those bends in the line you need for most outdoor activities and they must be learned from what I call the touch the line feel the line method. In other words you can tie the knot in the dark, blind folded, in a storm, hanging on the side of a cliff or trying to get up the rigging and repair as it collapses. Example–most folks can tie the bowline–can you tie it around someone, around yourself and in the conditions stated above? Believe the only way to be competent is to learn the few knots needed by feel and muscle memory. No app can teach that. My list of required knots for off shore sailing, and most situations that we will find ourselves in (not including rescue ops) are: figure 8, prussic, bowline, square, rolling hitch, good old overhand or figure4. Those few pretty much cover the basics of tying lines together or to something or adjusting length. Although I would love to know how to throw a diamond hitch–never did learn that but then I run dogsleds not horses or camels. But great link–I will study it:D

in reply to: What ya got goin? #19150Finished up the last of our tours this season with a tour bus of 33 seniors about the age of R2 and me. After 3 days of finishing the season will be out tomorrow Hunting turkey. May not have mentioned in my previous drivel about First Hunt- but for those of you who are interested–I am in position at least 2 hours before sunrise–and the last 1/4 mile to the selected ambush spot is reached on my hands and knees. Trust I will have some entertaining posts tomorrow evening—I see that many of you have a very low entertainment threshold:) For all have a good hunt.

in reply to: How far will you shoot? #19124I was taught (back in the 60’s) that a Hunters arrow point should hit the deer before the feathers leave the bow. My uncle and mentor was one heck of a stalker—practice moving and being part of the environment that is the skill–shooting the bow is second to that-IMHO. If nothing else you will see and enjoy so much more of why we do it.:)

in reply to: Abell's instinctive shooting books – a question #15854Jim
Right on its all the same. Having spent a decade or so teaching instinctive shooting–starting with a BB gun to our most elite, it just took me awhile to figure that I could use it with a bow–you should see Linda shoot my .45 pistol and it was custom built for me at our special weapons unit in Quantico. enough for tonight–think I have worn out the trigger finger.
–
Remember–focus on the target forget the weapon–unless your working at sniper ranges-different subject. OH IN cqb well my friend watch that squaring of the stance–advanced techniques teach different approaches–but then we are talking about different prey then turkeys. Small profile in that business means you win they loose.

in reply to: First Hunt #15765Ha Ha Ha—Dave Linda took one of those same gotcha photo’s today–she told me on return–I shot a turkey:shock:
Jim–do you ever sleep or soldier–or do your injuries keep you out of it–good thing if so. I like your posts would love to have a beer with you–but I have learned drinking with an Aussie, Brit, or Irishman–leads to oblivion for us colonists or in your case prisoners:D
Rest of the sitrep (including the shot) in new post. I figure all these will get some informed 😯 discussion going–and what the heck–it’s fun–although Linda just reminded me we have 0800 tour tomorrow which means 0500 wake up–well that’s sleeping in from turkey hunting.
