in reply to: What is Traditional Archery? #24239
I don’t think I could add anything to this great discussion–“traditional values” pretty much sums it up. I echo Bruce’s comments what an enjoyable site this is, you all are a pleasure to communicate with.

in reply to: What is Traditional Archery? #23359I need to sleep on this one more to follow tomorrow. Could be the most important thread we have to discuss.
in reply to: A short rant about KE… #19752Before you recycle take it out to the range and see how far different point weights penetrate–my carbon ex.350 with 300gr up front had a clean pass through–then I urinate on it and took it to recycle:D
in reply to: grouse and woodcock #19724No mercy in the Conrad household:lol:
in reply to: Bows in the Military #19717Actually I just ignored that mindless prattle from Jim figured he had been drinking some of that kangaroo piss that passes for beer down there:D
Dave- I spent a year in Leavenworth! Got away with being AWOL for 3 days–it was the opening of deer season. Then they asked me to organize a golf tournament for my study group. Rules were simple 2 per golf cart, 1 club, 1 case of beer. You couldn’t get out of the cart–sort of a mechanized training exercise. MP’s got us at about the 6th green–couple of turned over carts torn up grass and only 3 had to go to sick bay. The commanding generals comment was “what genius put the Marine in charge” and a couple hundred bucks from us all for damages8).
Look forward to a visit from AusJim.

Welcome aboard–I echo every thing Dave said. Not sure how far you are from W.MD but if your ever out this way bring along your bow and we will do some walking and stumping in the woods.

in reply to: Back from ETAR, what a blast! #18688Ron
The class you gave was great–the kitchen knives are now lethal weapons:D. My best to Ethan.
JM–never did see you or your son again after our first meet—that’s how many people were there.
I will have fond memories of my first rendezvous– now I just have to figure out how to load the darn pictures:(
Next year ought to be a blast.

in reply to: Back from ETAR, what a blast! #15413Alex has given the first spot report and I will follow tomorrow with some pictures I hope.
What an awesome venue and I won’t list all that I bought as I’m still trying to hide it in the garage.
Larry and Belinda were great reps for the magazine and this site and Belinda has great knives:D
Trailing in Alex’s footsteps is like following the “rock star”. Just don’t shoot a 3-D course with him if your trying to concentrate–his phone kept ringing as he was getting “text messages” from his girl. Dave make sure he leaves it in camp. Yes I saw her pictures and yes she is a keeper8).
Fun meeting and talking with Fred and Teresa Asbell. Fond memories of Indiana way back then. What a great opportunity to thank the instructor in person.
My first rendezvous and first 3D shoot–loved it– only broke one arrow.
Ron’s class for Alex and I was a real pleasure. Learned more about putting an edge on in that 30 minutes or so then I ever have–and yes I bought the KME sharpener. What a delight to meet the E in KME– Ethan–a 12 year old that will ensure the Trad. Archery legacy lives on.
More later after 5 hours on the road–time for the ole man to hit the rack.
Last but not least I was amazed at the numbers of folks there and what a neat bunch.

in reply to: Remove inserts from carbon shafts #11942Duncan
Not sure what carbons your using–my trad only 500’s with 300 gr. field point fly like darts as do the carbon ex.350 with same head–broad head is 225 tuffhead with 75 gr. adapter and they are 29″. Bow is shrew classic hunter. Just a thought–perhaps you might try heavy front end. But then it is fun experimenting.

Thanks for an uplifting point in a down day of setbacks in the battle to prevent gas development in our pristine eastern mountains. Might have to check out Sitka and try camo clothing again.
