in reply to: Garbaging for Bears #48246
j. well, I’m not sure that’s the point. In MD baiting for anything is illegal. And, from my experience when we as ethical hunters, with trad bow, condone behavior that can be confused by ANY as unethical–then we –as a group have an issue that needs this discussion. I would venture to say, given our deplorable voter turn out in any election ,and without a doubt, your electorate as well, that the comments above require some thought from all of us.
You MN and Mi folks way in.
Mike
PS. j-perhaps you could update your profile with picture and location. If not I will ignore subsequent posts.:D

Short answer yes. See the new bow post–picture of me shooting flu flu–that’s my small game, stumping arrow. Usually shooting up at tree rats the arrow comes back down point first. Usually, well, rarely. Our squirrels are really runts up this high so after one a couple of years ago–not worth the effort or cost.
One of my flu flu with insert, adapter, Joe’s 225 gr blunt and carbon arrow is a little over $10 ea. If you lose one my loving wife pointed out the fact that the measly 8oz of squirrel cost more then grass feed rib eye. 8)
But what the heck it was a hunt. And you have some deep snow now–we only have a couple of inches.
Trust this helps.

in reply to: Garbaging for Bears #48040That last line brings the issue to the “bottom line” so to speak.

Interesting comments on calling and decoy’s, as a matter of fact my wife asked that same question a few days ago while watching a trad bow hunting video. And my comment was–well yes you could call it baiting–but it ain’t the same as spreading some foodstuff around—it takes a great deal of skill to call and decoy successfully, and therein lies the difference. Skill—something you have to work at–like shooting a trad bow.:D

in reply to: New Elkheart #48031I definitely will be doing a review. Gregg thinks he’ll have it done for me to pick up on the weekend following Thanksgiving. PLUS, he’s making a Helms Deep for Tyler (my son), and I was told I’ll be able to pick that up at the same time. My son thinks he still has a long wait ahead of him, and I’m not going to tell him otherwise. So, when we go to pick up the bow, he is going to absolutely freak out when he discovers we’re coming home with two bows. 😀

Wow a bow and a pup–fortunate young man. While your at Greggs perhaps you can take some photo’s of his shop and stuff and post here.
Ignore Dave’s comments on hats–picture a 6 foot bean pole with a ridiculous straw panama perched atop:lol:

Welcome back. We can’t wait to here the whole story, just remember, you have to shoot the bow at the end to keep mom happy.:D
in reply to: New Elkheart #45937Bruce—Yes 52″ and it is a take-down. Just replaced Gregg’s string (don’t get me wrong it was just fine) with an SBD in my humble opinion, better.
Patrick will enjoy hearing your review. This is my third Java man bow and if it’s possible, the best.
Steve sorry no pie–there were 68 of them–I know I placed them and hauled them away–now critter food out back for the next month or so–should be some great cam photo’s.
Thanks for the compliments on the photo’s, however for those who know me–it weren’t me:D Never take your wife–the professional photog on a stumping walk for pictures of your new bow–they have to be posed and the light–the light:shock:
in reply to: Would you shoot a bedded animal? #45923Great discussion–all good points. As most said shot placement and angle would be my only reason to not shoot.
in reply to: CALIFORNIA DREAMING #45917Wow! Great story. Well done king.:D

Great story and pictures. And I’m glad you haven’t noticed the scratch or so that I put on the bow when I fell out of the hammock seat in one of my silent waiting positions::D
Don or mom I think you guys should prompt him for an article.
Although some translation may be in order–“Akimbo”.
Jim it really isn’t as heavy as that squad auto your used to carrying–the drill goes something like this–bow in bow hand when game is close take arrow and load–that’s the safe position draw and release when game is really close. Then write report of what a great bow it is and Joe’s tuffheads.
in reply to: Totally Traditional #325731winters and troutbum1
Welcome aboard:D
1winters I suspect your wife’s apprehension is that she feels that once you sell the machine you will want to buy another work of art8)
troutbum you would be one of the younger visitors here:D Just received my new elk heart from Gregg Coffey 46# at my draw of 27″.
Paleo makes a great comment: I spent about 5 hours out there today and saw nothing–well to shoot at–but I saw the fall woods and it doesn’t get any better then that.
Look forward to your continued conversations.
