in reply to: What ya got goin? #29078
These posts remind me of Smoke Blanchard (earlier mountaineer) whose favorite sport was using his ice axe (the old kind that you could use as a hiking staff) as a golf club to knock down those cairn’s of rocks that folks would put up to mark trails. By the way not trad bow–but his book Walking Up and Down in The World–is a great read. Available on amazon for a penny in hardcover:shock:
Good job Alex:D
in reply to: Happy Birthday, T.J. Conrads! #20212T.J. Happy birthday and good hunting. Can’t wait to read about it.:D
in reply to: Longbow shot while sitting #17423Jason–range is classified but you have been in my garage. And you don’t need to “harvest” a deer. You need to hunt and maybe kill a deer.:D

Yeah I used to think as a Lt. all that bull about trousers pants hats covers caps and stuff was just that bull. So when I pinned the eagles on I made it a point to use all the wrong descriptions–even had the audacity to carry an umbrella in the rain:shock: But the troops loved it. And that’s all that matters.
Now wash your pants now and then:lol:
in reply to: What ya got goin? #17407ALEX!! I know exactly where you are. Many years ago I coached the Naval Academy powerlifting team. At West Point in Feb.we did a bus drive and a run and got that same view. My comment to the midshipmen was–don’t ever complain about Annapolis in the winter again. That looks like a 4 year sentence:D
Paleo–my best regards to your brother8)
Alex time to schedule that visit.

I can always count on a smile in the evening from your posts. But don’t you remember from your jarhead days ladies wear pants and men wear trousers.
And they do git dirty or at least after a multi-week patrol they tend to rot off the body:shock: darn cheapest bidders.
Shot the bow today–at a string in the garage–cold windy and wet outside.:D Wojo and Brennan be ready:twisted:

well I think elk-heart is probably your best source try Racks on http://www.davidpetersenbooks.com
Having said that “getting into their minds” is really what trad bow is all about. Observation over and over–is the key.:D
in reply to: Neck Knife #15273U uns crack me up. However a Yawl is a sail boat where the mizzen mast is stepped aft of the rudder post as opposed to ketch rigging.
The yaw maneuver can be down by planes and space ships but boats that try it usually end up sunk. Now a tank can pivot on it’s axis as most tracked vehicles can and that’s called a neutral steer.
Doc U’se stay safe down thar till u learn da ropes.
To keep us on thread–nek knife man I wor mine on da belt. :D:D time for some shine:shock:
in reply to: What ya got goin? #15204Alex
Let us know when–given enough notice maybe can get Wojo and Brennan down here for a fun shoot heck might even get two for out here he is only an hour and half east.
in reply to: New Bow!!!! #14006Steve
Beautiful bow. Nice shooting. Now all you have to try is those A&A fletching. But I have to ask why a back quiver and a bow quiver:shock:?
Forgot to ask is your daughter ready for the late season elk?
Enjoy:D

Go down the page to the thread Quiet my Quiver–2for’s comment. Greg provides a great link to his blog and tutorial.
I got my Hill back quiver about 10 days ago and love it. It really is different shooting the long bow without quiver on it. And the folks at Howard Hill Archery are like all trad folks it seems, a pleasure to work with. I got the soft leather version so break in time was minimal.
More ice storms tonight:evil:

Ok for the last time my thoughts on this thread. The trackers are all I wear down to about 20F then to the camuks which are good to about -50F. http://www.mukluks.com
Yes pricey but mine are into their 8th year of almost daily wear–out there.
Well. your already a barefoot guy–but I shudder to think what the mountain guys will find when they give up those heavy pack boots for something that really works. With out the weight.
You know. I guess I have worn every boot made and humped more miles then I even want to remember all with sore feet. Trust me folks on this one I know–you DON’T need support for your feet or ankles–do your own research.8)
The old grunt who continues to learn:shock:
in reply to: Where is your anchor? #10723J
That picture is worth all those words. Wow–I’ll be doing some experimenting tomorrow–in the garage, as the ice storm is relentless.
Doc and Bruce you guys crack me up. Actually that post–not to steal Jim’s thread was precipitated by my new thought process as a prospective boat owner. If I had the skills, would post picture of our new slip (that Linda has been on wait list for 10years) at the naval air station in Key West.
Perhaps Jim can do that as I sent it to him this morning.
As a former off shore sailing instructor at the Naval Academy, I off course would like sails but Linda is leaning toward a trawler.
Any who, I hope to always find my anchor:D
in reply to: Kayak hunt fail.. #10621Jim
Our Nautiraid double is ready. With your power up front and my brains in the back seat-and I’m only 67–how about around Cape Horn. And just to keep us on thread we can take our two piece elkhearts for some bow fishing:lol:
in reply to: Where is your anchor? #10612Jim
If I let enough scope out–I hope to find my anchor at the end of the rode when I haul it in.:D:D Trust this will help.
