Thanks for all the suggestions. Me thinks this item get’s added to the shopping list at ETAR this year:D
Brennan that one you posted looks exactly like my WW11 map case except for the color–I also have my own map case OD green but I don’t use it—rather then nostalgia it just carries not so nice memories.
R2–yep been looking at the G. Fred one–he will be at ETAR with Teresa so will check it out. I believe that is an old picture on first post aren’t you green now in the back yard8).
Again, thanks for the input. Another reason why this site excels.

in reply to: What ya got goin? #30464Climbed the ski mountain this morning (black diamond slope) with 30lb pack–whew. After some chores started bare shaft tuning some carbons–what a neat thing.
Then called Elkheart and wished him a happy 69th birthday. Now time for some grass feed burgers on the grill and Linda’s homegrown spinach made into my favorite salad.
Another day in paradise:D

in reply to: What ya got goin? #27308Steve, Doc perhaps this disturbing article will help.
One of the neat things about science is that it never says “we know” all science is based on peer review and the desire to prove the other guy wrong. What is actually really disturbing about this–given the tongue in cheek article above–is that 97% of the peer reviewed articles that I have personally reviewed indicates that climate disruption is a fact and that it is caused by our species continued burning of fossil fuels and rape of other natural resources to fuel our consumer oriented culture with no regard to the planet.
And Doc –when I was a young geologist the concept of continents moving around was considered, that German weather guy’s heresy. Yep I was one of the young Turks that said “but the data show’s he’s right”.
The other neat thing about science is if you disagree on a point all you have to do is produce data that supports your hypothesis, confirmed by testing (experiment).
Sorry Doc your statements are not supported by experiment.
Steve’s are.

We are 40 Minutes east of Morgantown. Give me a few days notice to ensure we are here and not looking at darn boats:evil: on the coast—where we are off tomorrow to look at another of my captains–“this is the one”.

Going out again tomorrow. Missed a few days because of other activities. Results have been much like yours–with the exception that when I return home for that late breakfast– I have to shut the sliding glass door on the deck because the two gobblers 10yards out and 12 feet below are making so much noise I can’t tell my bride the stories of the morning hunt.
I am seriously reconsidering this sanctuary thing in our back yard–alas the “game warden” will hear nothing of that.

Bruce I am always interested in your “strongly held opinions” particularly after the 2 screwdrivers:D.
Doc I agree with your thoughts—until the passionate things close to our heart–conflict with observation, tests, and scientific theory.

If that gentleman you meet in WY name was Jim Sparks—you are indeed a fortunate person. Jim is one of the finest. I can tell you in later years he went back to nymph’s split shot and sinking lines–I know, spent 5 days with him on the green reef (or was it grey) section of the N Platte.
When the other guides where booked Jim would take folks for free only asking for chit’s in the fly shop–local guides called him the father of the river and the fly shop whore.
My first Battalion commander and a true outdoors man and good friend.
