in reply to: Schulz longbow values #51142
Thank you very much to the Mods for posting the pics for me and resizing them for me. i consider myself to be very lucky to have found these bows and to have aquired them. being a huge admirer of Mr. Schulz it was a mission for me to find these bows and learn a bit about them.I have been undergoing eye surgeries and will soon be able to see if I can actualy shoot a bow again its been a couple years same with riding motorcycles. the new glasses are on order and my eyes have stablilized so im hoping to be able to hit the range and maybe even a bale again. Im glad some of you could appreciate these fine bows. the Natural just blows me away whenever i give it a good look over and dust it off. its a shame to not shoot it but I believe its too nice to take a chance on damaging. i have never shot any of thes bows in public im wondering what the response will be from other Longbow shooters when i show up at the range with one. thanks again to all!
in reply to: Schulz longbow values #36895sorry it took me so long to get back the moderator resized the pics ofr me but i frequently work out of town and had downloaded the pics to my home computer. in reply to: Schulz longbow values #26951Im going to try an upload my pics of my Shculz bows i could not get them to load at the other website that shall remain nameless. im sorry i forgot not to mention other websites thanks to the nmod for cleaning up my language. if this works the first is called the legend 70#228″ i cant seem to load pics here either. i can always download pics ot the motorcycle sites i subscribe to. but i have pics of all three Schulz bows if anyoen can tell me how to load them. i would ahve posted on the other site but couldnt fighure out how they showed they were loading then nothing.
in reply to: Schulz longbow values #25582i had issues with my Camera ill dig out the other camera and take some. the bamboo Natural is really pretty to look at and it shoots like a dream although it a mans bow 80#@29″ This is by far the smoothest shooting longbow ive ever shot and i have shot a lot of bows and owned about 35 longbows! i got hooked on Bamboo when i visited Tim Meigs up in Carson city around 20 years ago up until then i was shooting production bows like the martin pioneer and Sky longbow and doing pretty well in competition. Tim built my first two custom longbows i will never part with them.
in reply to: Schulz longbow values #23182Thaks for the info. i really hate to part with these bows owning them was a many year old dream but if i cant shoot them they should go to someone who can and will appreciate them. they are some of the sweetest shooting bows ive ever shot. Ive owned a lot of longbows in my life but these and other built by Schulz trained bowyers just seem to work for me. thanks again.
in reply to: Emergency Gear #8762I wear a camo belt with pouches and carry some first aid equip, compass, a couple of those foil type emercency blankets, limb saw, gerber multi tool, a small fishing kit minus a pole, some trail marker ribbon, granola or garanola bars, Matches waterproof and a fire starter flint and steel a small canteen. this is for day trips only and i usually carry a bow quiver with six arrows on my long bowand a skinnign knife. if im just wandering or scouting not hunting i carry the same stuff but also carry my back quiver.
in reply to: Why would my upper limb snap? #31914thats not a snapped limb thats a delamination! a snapped limb would be if the limb actually broke in my experience usually it will fold at a 90 degree angle or break off entrely. of which ive ahd a couple always on bows i bought used and although spotless with no external signs of damage they broke one simply folded on draw the other snalled right off. both were long bows.
Ive only hadone recurve snap and it was due to some genius setting a light cigarette down on the limb of my bow while we were having a party at home.
in reply to: Back stops #31908i use one inch plywood although since i shoot wooden arrows every so often i loose apoint and have to retitreve it with apair of pliers. I carry lpiers in the pocket of my Quiver. i normally use haybales but they are ready fo replacment and i havetn goen to the feed store yet.
ive been shooting around 55 years and could never get comfortable with a tab. ive gone through alot of gloves and settled on the elk shin type from three rivers. it works for me i have three or four broken in and stashed in quivers and tackle boxes.
in reply to: Buying used recruves and longbows #60584I have picked up many bows off ebay and have had great luck with them. in fact out of around 30 bows not one has been bad none have broken or delaminated. some may not be in quite as good shape as advertsied but most of the sellers have been pretty straight up on condition of their items. I have picked up three used John Schultz bows and the only issue ive had was the leather handle on one was in bad shape but it was an easy fix.
I also picked up a couple black widows that were in decent shape. i have also resold allot of bows on ebay and i try to take the best pictures i can and be extrememly honest on the condition. I have not had any unhappy buyers out of probably 50 bows ive sold over the years. In my experience archers are usually pretty decent folks and very honest unlike some of the motorcycle sellers ive dealt with.
wow those are some beauties. Ive never tried splicing fletching like that whats thee secret
wow those are beauties. what is the technique to splicing feathers? I been making my own wood arrows for thrity years but never tried splicing like that. Im reaslly impressed i believe id like to try that. do the spliced feathers hold up well to field use?
?
in reply to: Best way to tune for wood arrows? #15064Honestly i havent had much trouble but my light bows are around 60# i use 5 inch fletching on cedar arrows and the appropriate point weight but then ive been shooting cedar for fifty years now so ive probabaly learned to compensate a bit.
I use 60# cedar shafts for almost all my long bows someitmes ill pick up some 65# shafts and use them on bows up to around 75# hill style longbows seem to be pretty tolerant of what you shoot so i depends on the design of your bow. on my higher weith longobws i use 80# cedar shafts.
in reply to: Traditional archery clubs? #15054I beleive the big shoot near Santa rosa was the yearly TAC shoot and they have gone away as far as i can dertermine their emial is no longer being answered and i didnt recieve a renewal notice last year. I’ll look into the Redding shoot and maybe run this by the CBH. Thnaks for the input ill check it out.
in reply to: Cedar shaft availibility #43505Im currently shooting my 60# bows again inpreperation to get back into my 70# and above bows. i slacke doff in my shooting and lifting weights due to illness. but now im back hitting the wiehgts and once i feel competant with the kiddy bows ill step back up. thers just something about shooting a high poundage longbow that makes it more enjoyable for me. the writing is on the wall ive got to move to another wood for my arrows.
i guess ill pickup some shafts and see how it goes.
Thaks for all the input and im going to try the art store for some cresting paint i hadnt thought of that as a source for paint. thanks for all the great input.
in reply to: Cedar shaft availibility #41141have been shooting cedar for almost 50 years i really like the smell of cedar when tapering the ends shafts. I never heard of mahogany shafting that sounds cool. so as long as we ar eon the topic how about cresting i havent been able to find decent cresting paint these days. all the paint ive been getting doesnt cover well and doesnt hold up it chips really easily. i find trying to get coverage takes several coats and then it doesnt look decent. i was going to try and find some paint thats not specificly made for archery and see if it held up better but her ein calif most of the opaint seems to be garbage. I repainted my home and three years later it needs a redo. I miss being able to personalize my arrows.
