South Africa you say! Well, if I was you and you was me, I’d research the materials and designs the natives from that area used for their bows. That’s just me though. I’m sure there are some great woods in that part of the world, I’m just not familiar with any of them.

You could also order a piece of osage from the states, but I wouldn’t recomend sinking a bunch of $$ in a piece of wood for your first bow. Bowyers learn from their mistakes, and I wouldn’t want to learn on a piece of wood that cost an arm and leg to ship halfway round the world. Better to start with something you can get cheap and local.

Do a little research and get back to us. Let us know what you find out and we’ll go from there.

I did my graduate research on feral hogs in central Mississippi. There’s plenty of public and private land hog hunting opportunities down south. It just depends on where you want to go.

A lucky role of the chromosomal dice! Like Killdeer, I come from a non hunting, yet rural family. I often wonder why I am afflicted with such a deep love and need for nature and archery when my brothers seem content with other pursuits. Traditional bowhunting is so much a part of me that any description of myself that didn’t incorperate it would be woefully inacurate.
