This is a great video! I actually got an adrenaline rush when I heard the deer coming but couldn’t yet see it in the picture. Very effective!

Nice work Stumpkiller. Where did you get wipe-on Polyurethane?

Impressive. This will help keep me from getting a big head.

I started shooting with a 55# long bow because it was a gift. It was lots of fun but too much weight. All of that practice with weight I wasn’t ready for has caused me to struggle to this day to come to full draw even with a lighter weight. I bought a new bow this year. It’s 46# Black Widow long bow and shoots sweet! Archery is lots of fun! I wish you well!

Welcome back to trad shooting. Compounds are fun too, but I love traditional so much I’ll probably never go back. Sixty pounds is more than enough weight to hunt white tail. I would recommend cutting that quite a bit. I don’t have experience hunting larger game, so I don’t know what weight to recommend for that. Martin bows and Bear bows are great and won’t break the bank. I like the others’ posts about replaceable limbs to achieve different draw weights. Most bows’ weight is rated at a standard 28 inches, so you don’t need to know your exact draw length to buy the bow.

I used polyurethane from the hardware store on my first arrows. It worked fine for a while, but then my fletching started peeling off. It turned out the product from the hardware store was not compatible with the glue I used for fletching. It’s been so long ago I can’t remember the brand of polyurethane I used. Since then, I’ve used Bohning products with great success.

Brings me back to my first kill… not nearly as impressive as a 10 point, but it was also my first white tail ever. It was an incredible experience. I hope to see pics of your 10 point. I had the same experience with does busting me everyday! The same lead doe, with a white spot on her side, would see me in a tree stand every time! I never got to eat that one. She was too smart for me.

I bought a new long bow this year and needed arrows quickly. I almost went carbon for convince. But, I couldn’t go through with it. The first deer I shot was with a cedar arrow I built myself. Carbon just wasn’t the same.

Congrats on the new bow! I toured BW’s shop this year and bought my first BW. It is a longbow with Bocote wood, toby grip and a beaver tale handle. I got to meet all the guys at Black Widow. When I picked up my new bow they helped me tune for the best shooting arrows and provided good tips for shooting technique. This is a truly red-blooded American group of people running a great business and making American-quality products!
