Good looking bows Smithhammer! Glad you got to hit some stumps…
I was out this morning as well and got into a stare off with this lovely lady…This pic was taken with my phone so it is not super clear but look just right of the tree in the middle of the pic.
in reply to: New bow to show off! #17295Congrats on the new bow! Great looking Riser.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #17151Thanks R2 – this was kind of a joke video in that my brother is not the kind of guy that understands solo time in the woods and is always giving me a hard time about disappearing in the woods on my own…asking what in the world do you do all day? So I thought I would give him a window into my world.
BTW – The bow is a three piece takedown that I just finished up. It is my second three piece attempt and I am loving it! 57# @28″ 62″ All Cocobolo wood with Red Elm core wood.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #17136Ok I will give this video effort another try…
in reply to: What ya got goin? #15329Here is a video of my day on Monday this week…
Oh well – I could not seem to get that working…
Awesome pics Smithhammer!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #46321Smithhammer – it is the Sierra’s above Courtright reservoir. It is a four mile hike back and is typically my first night of a several day journey to several high mountain lakes with awesome fishing.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #45650I was out doing some scouting in prep for deer season saw three does but no bucks this round but did however get some great fishing in.
The first lake pic is where I started my hike and the second is my favorite fishing spot. At just under 10,000 ft and a little bit of a climb with only foot or horseback access I rarely see others up there at the same time I am there. Makes for a quiet get away!
in reply to: Carbon Express Heritage 250 too weak? #28380Fish – I also shoot the CE 250’s with close to 300gn up front. The latest bow I built I cut the shelf to center where I normally cut my shelves a bit short of center. My CE 250’s were shooting a little weak, hitting to the right. I built out the shelf with a couple layers of leather little by little until I was back in line.
Here is a pic of how I built it out…
I simply put small pieces of leather behind the larger piece.
BTW – This bow shoots 51# @ 28. I draw 28″ my arrows are cut to 29″ This bow is 58″ ntn with a nice fairly aggressive r/d.
Hope this helps…
Great job Clay – always enjoy your videos
You are right R2 – I have learned all I know from good sources of instruction and insight by typing on the bluetooth keypad of my iPad. I tie my own strings and build my own bows and when people see them they say… “where in the world did you learn to build those?” Most all of my learning was from guys that I have never met in person. People who were willing to share a video or share some insight in this format.
In life I believe that we strive for a healthy experience of community a place to be encouraged and to encourage. This is one place that feeds the healthy experience of community. However having said that it would be even more fun to meet all you weirdos in person…:D
in reply to: What ya got goin? #20435Sounds like a plan…Ben
Your arrows look good!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #20378Ben – You are an arrow making machine. Are you storing up for Zombie Apocalypse or do you provide arrows for all your friends and family? LOL 😯
in reply to: What ya got goin? #18394I am just finishing up a bow that was supposed to be for a friends birthday – surprise gift from his wife. The weight came in a little bit high for what he likes. I could taper the back and bring it right to where he wants OR I just might keep this one and start another one for him. This is my first bow using Cocobolo and I fell in love with this wood.
This bow is 58″ ntn – 53# @ 28″
I am planning on hunting a new zone this coming deer season and I think this bow might need to accompany me.
in reply to: Thunderchild T/D #15239Thanks Smithhammer – I really enjoy building bows. I hope to build as well as Bigjim someday.
in reply to: Thunderchild T/D #14557And no kids – which definitely makes impulse buying easier.
Smithhammer – enjoy the season without kids and get as much as you can stored up. I have two boys 19 and 23 and I just finished saving up enough for a new bow and I was also looking at one of BigJim’s bows. But when my son called and wanted to come home for vacation – (He is living and working over on the Island of Maui…he works for YWAM – Youth with a Mission.) I was excited to have him come home but at the same time watched my bow money become an airline flight.
