in reply to: Custom Bow Makers #43925I started off with a Fred Bear Montana longbow – well under $400. I moved up to a high dollar Three Rivers Archery Tomahawk SS and love it…Now I build my own bows.
There are so many great custom bow options out there have fun with the search…
in reply to: A Holiday Rove #41581I went out in search of some peace and quiet today and found it. This is my favorite time of the year to walk the foothills. Everything is green and cool!
in reply to: A Holiday Rove #41266Yep – I am more central california – Clovis – I move about in the Sierra National Forest. I grew up in So. Cal mostly Huntington beach but I have spent a lot of time at Joshua Tree rock climbing all through college and earlier years of marriage. Love that area.
in reply to: A Holiday Rove #41241Bruce – what part of Cali were you roving around in? Just curious if it was anywhere near my parts…
in reply to: What ya got goin? #36972That is a double treasure…your Uncle being the treasuer of family with a rich heritage that has been passed on to you…and the treasure of the coat that now rests on your shoulders as you continue to carry on the rich heritage! That is what I call a true blessing.
in reply to: Merry Christmas bow hunters! #34385Merry Merry Christmas! I am looking at a present under the tree with my name on it and it is big and blocky looks to be about the size of my shot up old block target that occasionally allows an arrow to pass through. Somehow my son may have gotten the idea that Dad needed a new one. It may have been something I casually brought up at some point…:D
I wonder if he has figured out his rectangular box that is about the size of a dozen carbon arrows!
Blessings to you Jim!
in reply to: Hope you ENJOY #24876Awesome pics…I will let you know when my birthday is so that you have plenty of time to host my party!

Steve – I made a nice PVC bow for one of my great nephews and it started a chain reaction in which their folks have called to put in birthday requests for bows. Now all the kids have bows – actually I may have one more to go.
Jim – so glad it was just a shiner! Your son looks like a tough little guy and a happy guy!
in reply to: New Bow!!!! #13665Nice looking bow for sure! How many laminations make up the bow. It looks like two plus the glass is there a third wood lam but I just can’t see it in the pic?
in reply to: Where is your anchor? #10974I shoot thumb under jaw bone and my nose on the tip of my feather. And 3 under as well.

The riser piece is Black Locust. Thanks for the insight in regards to the hickory backing.
in reply to: GPS Suggestions #9638I am will Smithhammer on this one…I have spent the time to teach my son (who can now just about out navigate me) to use a topo map and compass. We love making our way to new lakes in the backcountry with map in hand. But I also have downloaded the app on my phone… “Topo Maps” by trailbehind inc. I download the map area that we want to explore and we work from the topo on the screen. I use it as a backup resource – and have educated my son as well – it brings me a little more peace of mind when my son and his buddies head out on their own.
in reply to: First Successful HBO bow build! #9559Smithhammer – the quiver is also a first for me. A couple years back I was on my journey for a quiver that worked for me. I ended up tanning this blacktail deer hide and making a very usable back / side quiver with a few added features. I cut a side opening to get to my arrows – then I got the idea to add some deer hide to the front to hold three broad head arrows for easy access. Then I added a front pouch as well. This hide has hair on one side so the inside of the quiver is nice and quiet. I am not sure if I like it so much because it is a great design or just because I put it together myself. Either way it works for me!
