in reply to: Shooting Gloves #54804tried most all of them………last few years have been spent with the american leather big shot…….shooting three under……we get along just awesomely………
in reply to: Cold Weather Gloves #54799i used to keep the nikon battery packs going on -12º photo shoot simply buy wearing rubber surgical gloves under army wool gloves……with a hand warmer pack between the rubber and wool…..palm side.
use the same technique when the temp takes a dive with the bow……the surgical gloves alone will add 10º to your regular gloves…..the hand warmer on the bow hand goes on the outside of the bow hand between the surgical glove and reg glove…….on the draw hand it goes on the palm side……since i shoot a finger glove the draw hand spends a lot of time in the kom pocket until needed however……..really though……simple surgical rubber gloves will add a lot to your regular gloves temp wise…….
in reply to: Best Natural Cover Scents #44271i think we should just keep our secret little monkeys for our own jungle and not let the world know…….:wink: the eye opener related to all of this is that if i take a buddies store bought magic never fail expensive bottle of hunt magic …..open it and then open a small plastic bottle of my mix…..and ask him or whom ever is pontificating around the tree with us……..no body can really tell the difference between the store bought smell and the homemade smell…..of course…..human noses are doing the lab work……been at this awhile…….and the mixture i’m using now really works……just hard to find as you’ve pointed out……on the store shelf…….
in reply to: Best Natural Cover Scents #43953:lol::lol:……r2…….been peeing in scrapes probably long before you where a thought. human urine does not spook deer……i do add tarsal scent of my making and a couple other exotic attractor scents plus unscented glycerin plus a teaspoon of salt to a gallon to keep from spoiling, but the basic ingredient is all made by me. i’m able to keep scrapes active and being checked all year……..sooooooo no…..can’t let you have the patent on that r2……
in reply to: Best Natural Cover Scents #42982smoke is a natural outdoor smell…….been around a lot longer than we have been walking up right. if…a big if…..your body is bo clean…….and stays that way for your hunt day…..and you really smoke the hunting cloths until you almost gag from the smell wearing them…..there will be no screaming man scent.
in reply to: Filled A Tag! #23109yeah but……..you released all the free radical atoms inside that thing to the partical spectrum of the universe when you trashed it with that shot. now any of us can with a special app…..pull out of thin air…….all your contacts…all your secret stand sights that you had marked…….all the photos of the secrete super bucks that you had stored…….:(….……..….
in reply to: Kodak Challenge #20944the only bear i’ve ever hunted…….idaho. i was showing a new guide our country and as the shadows started down the draws, i rode down into the junction lake tie up area…….the new guy asked me why because he was hungry and wanted back to the cook tent. told him i was going to kill a bear and after i tied up and pulled the glasses i could see one working berries halfway up the back side of the lake. so i told the new guy to hide and watch and as the wind had started down the slope i went up after him…….shot him at twelve yards on the ground. really have no desire to kill another one as he was p&y even though i never put him in the book………made the new guy cape him out as i watched. well…..i had to see if he knew what he was doing. he did a great job by the way.
ok…..i’m done. someone else needs to jump in here with images.
in reply to: Kodak Challenge #20941here’s a good idaho bull…….taken off of lundy ridge in the burnt wood drainage at five yards. long ago before the age of the wolf.
in reply to: Kodak Challenge #20939looking down into the lookout mt drainage……the early years in idaho……..hunting and guiding……rained all three days of this bivy hunt.
in reply to: Kodak Challenge #9720a long time ago……..my first bow kill……..ruined my life….:lol: turned me into a stick and string hunter for ever…….made me a big buck addict. took another five years before i killed another deer with a bow……that was a good buck ….three yards on the ground……it really took that long for me to realize that killing a doe was part of the program and to formulate the addiction to big whitetail hunting but that it really wasn’t about killing…..but about the journey…..up close and personal. that first one….was 152 and change….field dressed 222……taken over a scrape.
that was a day………went with my best bud…..[ even to this day and i started with him when he was 12 yrs of age. ]……anyway…….we limited out that morn on geese……..limited out on stripers by midday…..went deer hunting that afternoon……one of those ” once in a lifetime ” days.
in reply to: the pine ghost…………… #63788the broken tine was pretty much back to his signature rack the next year as you can see by the “end of the game shot”…….what was really noticable though was that in a corn year……he had for less ” junk ” at his base….then he did when it was a winter wheat late soybean year…….not much protein in corn until it hits the silk stage…….and protein makes a big difference antler wise………….here’s a shot of his broken side. i have the broken tip on the mantle at my home farm…………plus both sides of that year also.
last year was a soybean year…….and the junk at his base was awesome……….
in reply to: What are your favorite trad pictures? #63068mike……..it’s on “pirates of archery” in the bowhunting forum under the heading of “checkmate” …on the second page of that thread. now poa is not for everyone even if i am one of the four that started it……so be warned ……but some of the most knowledgable bow builders and traditional hunters are on that site…….anyway………this magazine was interested in the story also….i just have not re-written it yet…….soooooooooo let me see if i can start a new thread here and bring it over……we’ll try and just call it the pine ghost……..it’s kinda long and i might need some help doing it…..but a good read…….b
