in reply to: Will and his new recurve (thanks Troy and Ben) #49139
Ben,
He wanted to sleep with it. But, his mother was having none of it. If the woods taught me anything…its you don’t mess with mothers!
PS. I snuck in the release glove… 😉

Will and his younger brother Aaron will get a lot of use out of this fine bow. I would also like to thank everyone else that contributed items as well. I will post pics of Will with the bow when it arrives….thanks again Troy your kindness is a credit to you and our sport!

This is a great idea and thanks for building the little bow. My son William Herr is 3 and his 1 year old brother Aaron would love to be in the drawing as well. Thanks again and great idea!

in reply to: Arrow specs and charts… NEED HELP #44863If you look hard there are a couple places on-line to by single shafts…lancaster archery and I think eagle archery.
in reply to: Is camo necessary? #8813I use a ghilie hood with a 3d leafy asat suit…needed, probably not. Does it help, I think so. I find it really helps to break up my outline at close yards and helps me get away with more getting a shot. Best thing it is good for is people. I hunt in public areas in PA. There are people everywhere and the deer are so very aware.
in reply to: Evening dog walk #43551Dave,
Thanks for information and maybe if I get to go elk hunting someday I will have to do it from horseback!!!
in reply to: Evening dog walk #34630Dave,
Are they wild horses?
in reply to: SHREW BOW BOLT #8952Thanks fellows…it is appreciated. I got put on the list!
in reply to: ASAT CAMO ANYONE? #33962[/img]
I use it and like it bunches…I have a 3d leafy suit that I add my ghilie suit too. I find it works really well fooling animals and people.
in reply to: Tips for Scouting New Land #17746I am in the same spot as well. I have some new areas I am scouting as well. I have found that now is the time to hit the woods hard and build your blinds and pick your trees for the fall now. This will cause the deer some issues but will give them the next 5 months to relax again. Plus it is easy to see the rubs and scrapes of last year. If you find an area with nice rubs and a primary scrape that will be a good spot for end of October. If it is highly pressured area then I would find a number of good ambush spots inside the bedding area and not return to the end of October. I would use them as all day spots and get in 2 hrs before shooting light. I know it sounds nuts but in the one area I hunt there is 9 other tree stands near the giant swamp I am now hunting in. I used to hunt a farm on the other side of this public land and could never figure out where the deer went in the fall. I found out that they hang out and bed in the swamp area and then move out to feed on the farm when it gets dark. Too much pressure makes even the old does nocturnal. If you hunt an area with little pressure then I would also stay out of the bedding areas. good luck, enjoy and watch out for those damn ticks…they are out in PA again.

in reply to: shooting hours per week #58409I second the close form work. I am luck and can shoot 13 yards in my basement and 40 in my backyard. However, when I go to training or travel I often shoot at a few feet if need be. Just far enough back for the arrow to clear the bow. Hell I will try to shoot inside my couffin if I can get my wife to put my bow and some arrows in with me! Just shoot shoot shoot!
in reply to: Cork Screw #42281dwc,
I was having a bear of a time tuning my arrows until I did two things. I started to paper tune and I also started to video record my shooting. I couldn’t watch the arrow that closely so paper tuning helped me figure out what it was doing in the air. Once I got the spine correct I was getting a nock high indicator about an inch. When nock fit and string nock adjustments failed I got out the camera. I shoot split finger and my top finger was causing the issue. It was to deep into the string and when I adjusted it bingo. the knock high was gone. I am a novice but this is how I got to the base of my issues. Good luck and the last time I had cork screwing arrows the spine was off as I recall.
in reply to: who carrys a backup gun #41737I carry a Glock 27 at all times including hunting. It is for people, but if the need arose I would use against other animals.
