Congratulations on the bull David! I was hunting west of you over near Mancos. A good friend killed a 4X6 also this season. It too was a nice evenly proportioned rack.

The compound ads started showing up in magazines in the mid sixties. NFAA shoots dominated my area at the time. It was common to see 300 to 400 shooters at a tournament. The compounds were soooo ugly nobody would even buy one to try out. Actually the first one I laid eyes on was probably around 1970 or so. By then their looks had been refined and some companies were building some that were kinda tolerable looking. Wing came out with one that had recurved limbs that wasn’t too awful bad. It seems that ugly compounds don’t keep folks from buying them nowadays as they are all about the ugliest bows I have ever seen.

When I was a kid in the fifties, we had no deer and coyotes but plenty rabbits and quail. The coyotes arrived in the 60’s when the deer population reached huntable numbers. Between them and the red tailed hawks the rabbit population has went to almost nothing. It is so bad when their beagles finally find a rabbit, the hunters will not kill the rabbit because they want some left for their dogs to run.

I will shoot any coyote that comes in my range. Having said that, I have only been able to kill two with a bow and none with a gun. I do not actively hunt them but will surely fling an arrow at one if he gets close enough.
