in reply to: Short recurves…suggestions? #38540
Jim, You should check out Cody Dumont at Tenbrook Archery.
He builds some absolutely beautiful bows and short bows seem to be his specialty !!Reasonably priced too !!
Worth a look my friend !!
in reply to: Serving a bowstring (cheap & easy) #29489What size monofilament are you using ??
in reply to: Fletching painted carbon shafts #60665I’ve done the same thing in the past. Sprayed my arrows and crested them and fletched them only to find the glue melted the paint ! I used automotive lacquer to solve it. 3 or 4 thin spray coats of lacquer and the glue worked fine !!
in reply to: Side quivers with arrow grippers #46509This one has a belt loop or I can sling it like the Asbell quiver. I actually like it strapped over the shouder in much the same position as the pic but up under my right arm. This also allows for my binocs to sling just under it !!
in reply to: Signs of Spring? #41963Smithhammer !!! Are those flip flops ?!?!?!?! Oh, how I miss flip flop weather !!!! When will this winter ever end !!!!!
in reply to: Apr/May Issue #41956I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. We don’t seem to get the new issues as quickly up here!! I did, however, enjoy the Feb/Mar. issue very much !! Especially the Spring Fling and Dead Woods articles !! over the past few years, this has become the only magazine I actually read anymore !!
in reply to: How do you draw? #41936I guess mine is very much like Smithhammer’s first video only I tend to lean into the shot somewhat. Feet slightly apart, I sometimes use a tree stand so I try to keep my feet no further than they would be on the platform.I occasionally practice swing draw while I do what I call trow back shooting. As I walk back from the target I randomly throw my arrows different directions and distances and then shoot from where they land. I watched one of Jeff Kavanaugh’s videos on drawing up on your target in a straight vertical line but I had a hard time doing it. Also occasionally shoot off a chair or from my knees or from a crouch raising up. Its always good to practice any shot you might need to make in the wild !!
in reply to: first bear hunt #39375in reply to: Recurve tiller #38263I’d say that bow is tillered for 3 under shooting.
in reply to: Signs of Spring? #38246Been seeing about a dozen turkeys on a regular basis. They seem to congregate every year across the road from me. That is the only sign of spring here. Snow is still 3 to 4 feet everywhere, long range forecast shows no evidence of warmth. Minus 20’s at night and minus teens for daytime highs… I don’t mean to be a pessimist, but I don’t believe there is such a thing as spring anymore !!!
in reply to: Home practice range #35345in reply to: Side quivers with arrow grippers #35341in reply to: Light Weight Hunting Bows #35302I hunt deer and bear with a 40# Howatt recurve. Now, I also over draw it to over 30 inches so my real draw weight is more like 46 or 47 but its plenty enough to kill what I’m after.
in reply to: Out of Place Critters #35286Over the last few years, there seems to be a growing number of cougar sightings in our area. I personally have never seen one or even it’s track but I know a few who have actual photos of one. Not exactly a native species to Ontario Canada as far as I know !!
in reply to: Turbulators #22216Ok, correct me if I’m wrong here. So, using a turbulator essentially creates more drag due to the turbulant air flow over the feathers. Correct ???
This lets us use the smallest feather possible with the same affect as a bigger one. Correct ??
Ok, here’s the big question. Is the FOC gain really that great to warrant this ??? Is there really that much difference from 3×5 inch to,say, 4×3 inch ??
