in reply to: Silencer Mystery…? #27812
Very cool Robin ! Thank you for posting that !
in reply to: Silencer Mystery…? #25733Yes, the rubber bands did wear out quickly. I’m using tire tube cuts now. As for the bow that doesn’t need silencers, sounds like a nice problem to have ! If you don’t mind me asking, What is it ? (make/model)
in reply to: Old recordings of Curt Gowdy and Fred Bear #25701Very cool !! Thanks for posting this !
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #23537Might not do so well in high wind. It still rids your clothing and equipment of any scent when you use it in a confined area like a closet with your gear inside though.
in reply to: Got One…Got Lucky… #23533Nice doe ! I see blood on the fletching so you must have gotten good penetration !
in reply to: Camo, Thermals, Depends… #23346You’ve got my wheels turning now !! I’m gonna have to set up a camera on a scrape now and experiment.

Has anyone tired to spread the charcoal on there clothes or around them to have it soak in the smell? Figure it would be a least expensive way to keep your scent lock down.
FYI – it is not the same charcoal as you would get after burning something 😆
That does work but it has to be activated charcoal. Works good when you line the bottom of a trunk or plastic bin and put your clothes in with it. The charcoal does wear out after a while though
in reply to: Broadheads… #22204I’ve seen a few trad hunts on youtube that used a broadhead called German Kinetic. They look exactly like these. One was a cape buffalo hunt with recurve.
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #22196Yes, points taken, and I do agree that this gadget is cost prohibitive. I don’t actually own one yet myself because I can’t justify the cost. You’re absolutely right, people have been fooling the noses of animals for a long time with just the wind and their wits and will no doubt continue to do so. Maybe I don’t need one….but, after seeing it in action, if I had the money I would definitely use one.

Thanks,

There is an Algonquin Outfitters which is actually a canoe/kayak/camping outfitter. You want South Algonquin Outfitters. Maybe try Facebook. They are near a small town called Wilberforce which is about 2 hours North/East of Toronto.I’m about an hour North-West of them. I know a few guys from upstate NY who hunt there every year and have taken some real nice bears.
I’m fortunate,I guess, that I have a number of great spots to hunt them within about 20 minutes of my house. A couple spots are literally a 2k trail ride behind my house.

I’ve been peeing from the tree for years and have had many many deer just walk right on by it. Several even stop to sniff and lick it off the leaves.
BTW- great read:lol:
I know a few guys who have actually peed into scrapes. Don’t know what the results were but I still think I’ll carry my Gatorade bottle for the time being. And maybe stay away from asparagus in hunting season !
in reply to: Camo, Thermals, Depends… #21825Great story !! I have to say thank you for actually trying this experiment and relaying your findings to us !
in reply to: blackbear hunting #21812I live in Ontario and married into a family of bear guides and outfitters.Unfortunately, they don’t operate anymore but I do know of a few very good places to hunt bears. South Algonquin outfitters will put you a great bear hunt and (not quoting here but) for less than a thousand bucks. Worth checking into.
I live about an hour from them and do it myself every year. Have taken some real good bears and this past year, my first with trad gear.
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #21778Ok, ok… I can understand all the sarcasm and negativity here but let me ask ALL of you this ! Have you actually tried it or know someone who has ? Joke all you want but I have seen this unit work “first hand” and yes,it does work !!! I was as skeptical as all of you here at first, but Not any more.
