Sept 2nd
We glassed and found a small herd at 6:45 this morning with a big body bull. Very far, 2 miles as crows fly, across the canyons. We hiked there, found the small hidden meadow below the ridge where they were feeding an hour earlier, only to hear one lone bugle on the next ridge! They had moved into timber to “rest”, as my girlfriend Lauren would say!??
We called and waited 45 minutes. We hiked back to the ridge where we heard the bugle, I tried to go down and see, but we decided to move away because of wind issues. I really thought I had a chance this morning. Oh well!
This picture is taken from the meadow and shows the mountain on the left where we glassed this morning. Pretty far, heh?!
David, I’m writing while still in my sleeping bag in David P’s house, with 4×6 Elk antlers lurking over me! The same 4×6 I helped him pack out 4 years ago! I rented a car and I’m heading to the San Juan National Forest today, joining Thomas and Joey Downing’s high camp at 10500ft. I will be hunting opening day for the first time and for 6 full days, mostly alone down the dark canyons. Friday, I fly straight to my next gigs: Birmingham Saturday, Atlanta Sunday. Home monday! I’ll keep you posted!
PS: My daughter was born 2 weeks shy of my 18th birthday!8)
Sorry I didn’t make it. I like the group picture, I look really good on it! I should be invisible more often! 😛
My whereabouts, DWC, were all over NYC, Hudson Valley and Long Island with my nephew who came from Switzerland on the Denton weekend to stay with me for 3 weeks. He just left! I also moved out of New York City on July 31st! I moved to Beacon, NY
I also had my grandson for the weekend during Denton
I tell you, between entertaining a teenager , an 8 year old, touring and packing for a move, it was a perfect storm!! I’m going to Colorado tomorrow for a week then directly to the next gigs in Alabama, GA and NC.
in reply to: Anybody heading to E.T.A.R ? #47710going for the day Thursday. I plan on meeting some folks at my buddy Angelo Christiano’s Bison Gear booth around 11AM
in reply to: What do you do when you hit a bulls eye? #41828I look at my Shrew in hand and tell her, again, and again, that I’m sorry for the time I had, in a moment of weakness, that one-nighter with another, younger, different bow! 😕
in reply to: Custom Bighorn #39947I will hopefully go to ETAR next weekend. Fred is always there. I’ll ask him about that. Maybe he knows someone who has/kept that info.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #24974Great pics, Cameron!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #15975Such great pics, Bruce!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #13044Been working like crazy and absent from tradbow these past few months. I left for Europe last Monday, but I had a chance to make a quick visit and shoot one course with my Shrew and a couple of friends at the Whittingham trad shoot in NJ before I left! The next two pics were taken early this morning in the Swiss Alps while spending the weekend with my brother. that nice buck Roe deer was gone as soon as I turned my shoulders in his direction, even though I was about 150 yards away. After I saw him from the proverbial corner of my eye, I had to prepare my camera while I was still running before I turned towards that what we call “Brocard”! I thought you would enjoy these pics!
in reply to: Stone Arrowheads #41675We find them occasionally up here in the Mid-Hudson Valley. I have a friend who seems to have a knack for looking in the right places. He says to look mainly on the outside of a stream’s turn.
in reply to: Spring shoot #16420Aaaand…what are the bows shown on these gratuitous pictures?
Looka like a shrew or elk heart on the right. 😀
in reply to: question about stoves #14192I went thru 3 MSR stoves the last 20 years. I like them a lot. efficient and light. But I still have my old reliable Coleman single burner and still use it sometime. It’s all banged-up but always works like a charm! Lately I’ve been thinking about trying the Biolite stove. A friend of mine who constantly camps out has nothing but good things to say about it, so….maybe
in reply to: Two Tracks String Scallops #9631I used them on one string once but wasn’t crazy about them, and went back to woolies. Now I only use the acrylic yarn puffs that come installed on my SBD strings. IMO, nothing else comes close.

Take some liquid super glue and put it on the scratch. It will soak into the fibers. Let it dry over night. If necessary, add some more the next day.
After it is filled in well, sand lightly with 400 grit (or so) sand paper to smooth out.
Finish with polyurethane.
This is about what any “professional” bowyer will do, and it will cost you less than shipping one way.
:D:D:D Thank you! will do!
in reply to: Winter Rove #8448Great pictures, thank you! Still too much snow on the ground here to venture in the woods, but after this 50 degrees week, the snow should be mostly gone.
I can only get judos up to 260gr with my 125gr adapters and I usually roll 40gr of 1/2″ duct tape around the shaft behind the judo to get to 300.:?
